No oil filter sucks. A. If they did. They would no longer be around. B. There all made basicly the same. You can say fram sucks and k&n is better. But I have yet seen any reason that on is better then the other. Its all a personal preference in what you like. An oil filters an oil filter. They are made to hold up to XXX amount of miles. Sure it will screw **** up if you go over possibly for running a dirty *** filter, but if you keep on your maintenace you should have no problems.

My uncle whos been a mechanic for 25+ years runs his cars with a fram filter.....

And i have yet to have any problems with a fram filter.

Sounds like a job for myth busters. Someone get writing who swears up and down that one oil filters better then another.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO A PERSONAL PREFERENCE IN WHAT YOU LIKE, WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD, AND WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO LISTEN TO. YOU WILL HERE NUMEROUS PEOPLE MAKE CLAIMS AGAINST ONE TYPE OVER ANOTHER AS WELL AS PEOPLE SAYING CRAP ABOUT THE TYPE OF OIL YOU USE. THEY GUY ASKED WHAT YOUR RUNNING NOT PEOPLE TO FLAME PEOPLE AND CRAP. EVERY FORUM SITES QUESTION TURNS INTO A FLAME WAR

Yup cardboard glued to the filter media sure is high quality!!!!! I mean you gotta love when they separate and let unfiltered oil back into your engine or when it comes tottaly apart and restricts oil flow which has happened many times since fram changed and went cheap on everybody. You keep running your fram but I sure as hell wont.

For a V8 LS1, what oil grade is recommended? I've found Walmart stickers saying "10W 30," but was also recommended Mobile 1 5W 30. What difference does it make?

I looked for the Mobile 1, but couldn't find it because they're on a shortage due to a warehouse fire. So I bought Castrol Full Synthetic 5W 30. Is this acceptable?

By the way, if a Walmart oil change shows "10W 30 Bulk," does this mean it's regular oil and not synthetic? Does a label always have to indicate "synthetic" if that's what it is?

For everyone that said pennzoil blows.. well uh... do some research...

Because the new pennzoil platinum which is a conventoinal oil, ranks right up there with any FULL synthetic oil. Its Used oil analysis that matters, doesnt matter what oil you use, you wont know whats good until its sent to a lab.

Pennzoil platinum is one of the best oils on the market today and its readily available.

But since I'm here.. I use GC with a truck Delco filter.

Like all recent GM cars, and really most recent cars in general, 5W30. 0W30 works well if your car doesn't burn too much oil. 10W30 is OK but I would prefer not to use that.

if i'm not mistaken, the first number in oil weight is the "cold weight" and the second number is the "hot weight". when the engine is warmed up, 0W30, 5W30, and 10W30 are all SAE 30 weight oil. the lower the first number, the easier it is for the engine to pump the oil when it is cold. i.e. in the winter, upon startup 0W30 acts like SAE 0 weight, 5W30 acts like SAE 5 weight, and so on.

my car burns a little oil between oil changes (7500 mile oil change intervals) and i've noticed no difference in oil level between 10W30 and the 0W30 that i use now.

Mine seemed to burn 0w30 quicker than 5w30 though the new style PCV fitting appears to be helping so far. I didn't do any scientifically valid testing on it though.

Group III is synthetic but it is derived from dino oil. They put it through a process and it is called hydrocracked oil. If we go by your theory then 99% of so called synthetic oils sold today are really only regular oil. GC, Amsoil, Red line are all group 4 or 5 true synthetics. Mobil 1, Penz plat, valvoline syn, Castrol syn are all groupe III hydrocracked oils.

Switch to the 0w30 European Formula ("German Castrol"); it's much better than the other stuff available here.

No problem guys. Dont ask me why but I have an oil fetish if you will. I spend alot of time on bobistheoilguy.com and have learned alot of stuff about oil and filters. Honestly now days there isnt a single oil made that wont do a good job in an every day car. The older flat tappet cam engines is another story all together.
