Default Daytime running lights keep blowing...

Has anyone had an issue with their daytime running lights blowing? Ive replaced the bulbs time and again and they keep blowing. Their is no water leaking in and no visible problem. I'm clueless on what to do other than replacing the bulbs, which isnt fixing anything.

Need more info. Are both sides blowing up equally? The bulbs are dual-filament. Do both filaments go bad? Does just the DRL/Parking Light filament go bad? Does just the Turn Signal/Hazard filament go bad?

My 98 Z28 had a problem where the left day time running lamp would go out and even after replacing the bulb, it still wouldn't work. Turned out I had to replace the entire assembly; bulb base(plastic unit the bulb goes into) with pigtail to harness. Apparently the old one was corroded. Eventually the other side did the same thing; they have been fine since being completely replaced.

That sounds like it monguse.....the sockets themselves do look a bit nasty. you mind if I ask how much it cost to replace? and how far back did the harness go? was it a pain to get to? Thanks!

You're probably getting water in them that's draining out so they look dry. When you replace the sockets make sure you pack them with grease and grease the washers around the sockets. Also check that the housing drains are clear.

Go to the store and find a new socket, I replaced mine for like 6 bucks, bought a couple spares for later. Takes like 20 minutes to replace. I did mine a couple months ago and I have had zero problems since.

Everyone has problems with them. I think if they were mounted on top of the housing it would almost cure it 100%

I bought mine through my local dealer so I would have a warranty on them if the died again. The bulb socket part number is 88986416 list $39.76 each(CAMARO)and part #12159662 list $64.65 each(TRANS AM) The Trans Am unit is a 3 way female with leads. This socket has the leads on it too. The price has gone up a bit since I did mine. The part number 12159662 will also work with standard Pontiac Firebird and FORMULA models. The Trans Am lamps are different(daytime lamps).

I spliced in a new socket on mine and drilled holes in the bottom of the parking globes. In Louisiana we have sub tropical climate with lots of rain and humidity. I see F bodies all over town w/ burnt out lamps. The holes will help them breathe and keep them cooler (they heat up the air/moisture inside of the globe and that helps the corrosion process).

2 holes in each globe will help them breathe.

I had the same problem, an I think it happens more to the firebirds than the camaros because of the way that housing is designed, it tends to suck in alot of water--so I basically just replaced the socket, used ALOT of die-electric grease and spliced in the new wires, its not hard, its only 3--1 for the DRL, 1 for the turn signal and 1 for the ground.

Take out your socket, take it to autozone, and say "I need one of THESE"
