Default Just changed oil, Huge oil pressure improvement!

Hey, just got my camaro a few months ago and just changed the oil the other day for my fist time. The sticker in the window showed my old oil was mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic with about 2500 miles on it. I only had about 20 psi of oil pressure at idle when the car was hot and 25psi cruising. So i decided to switch to mobile 1 10w-40 synthetic and a mobil 1 filter. When changing the oil i noticed the old oil filter was a fram (junk). Anyways after the oil change my oil pressure is never below about 35psi at idle when hot and usually 45+ while cursing around. Can the thicker oil make that much of a difference or is the fram filter just that crappy. Needless to say im happy now as im not worried my oil pump is gone. Just curious how there can be that much change...

I had a truck with a rod knock and low oil pressure. I'd have to put in 20w50 with two bottles of STP oil treatment to get the noise to stop and the oil pressure to come up to normal.

It was, so i traded it in.
A few months later I bought it back looking like this.

I pulled these rods out of the holes in the pan, no tools at all.

My motor has 122k on it. So its not low mileage but not exactly over the hill yet. I am curious if the filter made any difference or it was just purely the change in oil. Anyways...those rods do not look pretty....

NO, there cannot be that much change. The oil you put in is a thicker oil, but its also new. The older the oil gets the less viscosity it has over time, even 2,500 miles. Your oil pressure will drop as you approach 2,500 miles again.

And you can think the Fram is crappy, but its not. There are better filters, but trust me, its all hype and talk, oil filters are all just fine. You're not going to see a noticable difference from one to another unless you do a very accurate computer analysis in a controlled test.

well when i bought the car it only had a hundred miles or so on the oil change and it had the low 20psi pressure then, it didnt get any lower by the time i changed it. So if the filter had no affect then i guess im supprised that just bumping up the viscosity one step to 40 weight almost doubled oil pressure....

20psi on warm idle really isn't that low. I've been running M1 5-30 in my car now and on warm idle it sets around 18-22lbs; cruising it sets at ~40lbs; WOT it runs at 55-60lbs. I am about to cross the 100k mark myself. Oh yea this was also with a K&N oil filter.

I can tell you from experiance it is the Mobil 1 oil filter. I too changed from Frame or others i'd use then heard good things about Mobil 1 and right away i noticed my oil pressure went up.

Also I use use to have to put in 1 quart of oil every 2 weeks with other oils till i switched to Valvoline now i only put in 1 quart every month if not a little more then a 1 month. All ls1's burn oil.

On start up my idle is at 40psi. Once it's all warmed up, my idle becomes 20-25 and 40 while driving.

i was thinking about upping mine from 5w30 to something a little thicker since on warm days occasionally while stopped at idle my check gauges light will pop on. i tried a different OSU and it actually made it worse so i put the old (1 year old) one back in. the one i got from AZ to try to fix it would drop the oil pressure to 0 at every single stop light, whereas the other one would only do it occasionally after sitting for a min or 2 at a light.

My LT1 car had a lot lower pressure than the LS1 don't know why....I know the GC is good or Penzoil Plat.

With GC I never seen it go below 40 PSI in my 99 even on long trips and stop and go.
