Just keep in mind that any program download or battery disconnection will cause all the emmison readiness tests to "not ready" status. You must go through a certain amount of drive cycles to get them to run. Not sure about AZ but in WI you can have 1 "not ready" and still pass....I know I did! Haven't heard how many is the limit...3?

I live in Nevada. I was tired of the "hear say" about what will and wont pass emissions so I went down to my favorite smog place and asked a bunch of questions. He was happy to answer all my questions. I wanted to know if I would fail with long tube headers cause the majority of people were telling me I would here on LS1 tech, but he said its fine, just don't remove the EGR if you have it and make sure you have cats. Its gonna differ for each state, so go to a smog place and ask away.

Well.. this question is a never ending one.. There is two ways to look a it:
1) Technicall Legally
2) What the Tech will allow to pass even if it is not Legal.

Even though your state many not require testing or lack of testing for some items.. it is still illegal cause the Fed Gov law would still be in effect. Technically speaking, the only equipement that you can change leagally is one that has a C.A.R.B cerf/sticker with the aftermarket parts.

So.. granted that some state and smog tech may not test or look for illegal changes, it still doesn't make it legal (thanks to the Fed's).

If you can pass with what you have swapped ...cause the tech over looked it (friend or paid not to look, or just didn't catch it) then you are lucky and just go with it.

But if you are caught, there are fine's for you, the one doing the changes (Shop) and the Smog Tech/shop.. Just Technically speaking. The Smog shop can lose it license as well as the tech losing his certificate to do smog checks, which could be his only income or living.

I live in California, so it is a lot harder, but many are lucky to live in a easier state. Its up to you !
Good Luck.

Default Texas EGR

Anyone try removing the EGR in Texas and still pass the emissions test? I was comparing the emissions test documents I got last year for my 00 TA and my wifes 04 Yukon and noticed my report said EGR "ready" and hers said "N/A". I don't know if the EGR test/report was based on the year/make/model of the car so the tesing computer knows when there should be an EGR or if it gathered the information from the PCM and saw that there was an EGR and hence said it was "Ready".

In any case, removing the EGR looks very simple. Maybe I'll just remove it and disable the EGR in my PCM with my EFILive. All they can do is fail me and make me come back after I re-install it.

I was told I would have no problem passing emissions with no EGR, CATS, O2s in Texas. The shop assured me before doing the work. All the **** was turned off which puts the not ready light on. In Texas your aloud 3 not ready lights. That's Texas though, don't know about other states. I will let you know for sure in March when I go try to get mine. Either way I'm not worried because I got the hook up.

Some years of cars and trucks do not have EGR which is why she may have the N/A .. as in the 01-02 F-Body and the some year Vettes (99+?), they do not have EGR's.

yea when they type in the year/make/model it tells them what its suppose to have. If it dont have something it just has N/A in the slot it wont remove the part from the list.

Passed in OH with long tubes and cats. EGR and AIR were removed physically and in the tune.
