A vacuum pump to pump out the crankcase pressure? I've never had a "Drag motor", but yes, I have used a vacuum pump on my LS1.

OK, change that to say, race motor. IE: not street driven. I saw where Reher Morrison makes a nice kit that includes all fittings etc.
jmX - How did you mount the pump to the side of the block, and how did you fab up the drive pulley?

Re: Anyone using a vacuum pump on their drag motors?
I used an electric pump off a cadillac, same one lots of LT1 guys use. I mounted the pump (its pretty big) in the front bumper/fender area, and the catchcan went under the battery.
The pump could keep up with the crankcase pressure at wot up until about 5500rpms, but my SS seemed to build crankcase pressure more than my current LS1. Each LS1 is a little different as far as how much blowby it has I guess. From 5500rpms to 6800rpms, it went from 0psi to about 1.5psi of positive pressure.
Reguardless, on the dyno, there were 0 gains or losses all across the band between having vacuum and not. The vacuum generated was about -15 inches if I remember correctly.

I realize the gains will be negligent on a stock motor. I think I'll try one out when it comes time to run my new motor. I'll order up some ultra low tension rings too, and see what happens. Think about it, better ring seal, less blow-by, no oil consumption all sound good to me.

Last month's Pontiac High Performance had an article about Big Red - a 427inch ls6-based drag car...
...the owner mentioned a plan to install a pump that he said will add about 20HP...
