Valve Float
I have a polluter cam, and as far as valve train goes I just bought some comp ultra gold 1.72 roller rockers. I was told with these rockers that I will most likely get valve float. I havent bought valve springs or pushrods, yet. From my understanding different pressure valve springs can help take away valve float. Is that true at all? Any reccomendations on what will help against would be great. Thanks in advance everyone!

well if you put more pressure on your valve springs it should help prevent valve float however you will decrease your coil bind capacity aswell. Look at various springs find out what the coil bind lift is at certain psi's of pressure and go from there

Who ever told you the rockers would cause valve float is iffy. Its all about the system, unless you have some severely heavy rocker arms and these are lightweight. Adding more spring load is a band aid, not an answer.

Who ever told you the rockers would cause valve float is iffy. Its all about the system, unless you have some severely heavy rocker arms and these are lightweight. Adding more spring load is a band aid, not an answer.

Those rockers are actually supposed to be very light at the tip. Comp is sending me a set to try and I plan on running them on my CTS-V which currently has our XTreme 227 camshaft (227/227 .639"/.639" 116+4) If I don't get valve float with this cam, I'll be pleasantly suprised... One variable which will make a difference in my case is I have an LS6 which has lightweight valves. I plan on trying them on a set of AFR's as well but I am looking for something with a VERY aggressive cam just to see what happens.

Im sure youll get a good set of springs and set them up as well as you can. Let us know how it goes.

I wish I could put some new valves in, but I dont plan on being in the works for this year. Id rather wait and get some aftermarket heads next year.

How do you know? Do you know the moment of inertia of these rockers?
Agree, but sometimes you have to do unconventional things to solve a problem.

id love to tell you the specs of the cam but probably shouldnt for now...its close to the hpe megadeath cam with out the split. The only things I've gotten for my valve train so far would be the ultra gold rockers. I was going to buy pushrods and valve springs next. Everything I have so far is in my sig. Everything else I need to buy yet.

To keep the valve train as light as possible and still control the valve train, I would recommend:
Option 1:
136 lbs on the seat / 374 lbs over the nose
PSI 1511ML installed @ 1.780" - 66.4 grams
Comp Cams 772-16 or Katech titanium Retainers - 7.2 or 6.0 grams
Comp Cams 623-16 machined locks - 3.2 grams
Option 2:
143 lbs on the seat / 336 lbs over the nose
PAC 1518 installed @ 1.760" - 75 grams
Comp Cams 772-16 Titanium Retainers - 7.2 grams
Comp Cams 623-16 machined locks - 3.2 grams
I think Katech still has their 20% off sale going on, you can get a good deal on the PSI's and associated parts.
For reference here is the PP 8412:
144 lbs on the seat / 374 lbs over the nose
PP 8412 installed @ 1.770" - 94.2 grams
PP 8408 titanium retainer - 10.2 grams

So with the 1.72 rockers, your lift would be .617/.619 based on .358/.360 lobe lift.
To keep the valve train as light as possible and still control the valve train, I would recommend:
