Default magnaflow or hooker catback?

I'm considering a new catback for my 99 z/28. I really like the magnaflow but I have heard the hooker is better for the money. I dont like the tips on the magnaflows either. My car is completely stock so both will be pretty tame. I have also read the magnaflow is too quiet. so I'd like to get a second opinion on which one to get. magnaflow or hooker catback? I have narrowed it down to one or the other. any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Here is my hooker with 4" tips. They are 4" x 9" stainless from 3a Racing. The hooker is very mild at idle, and gets nice and deep around 3k. No rasp at all.

Both are very good catbacks. The Hooker is mild steel which allows it to be signifigantly cheaper than the Magnaflow. Also note, the Magnaflow is available with tips VERY similar to the dual dual Corsa tips. They look almost identical...

You can find pics and details here.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks,

I think the Magnaflow catback tip look best on the camaro's
I like the magnaflow better for being stainless steel, Hooker is aluminized steel and is very heavy.

heres my car when it had heads and cam but you get the idea

heres my car with the hooker, cam only cut out opens at the end

does the magnaflow have any rasp at higher rpms? I'm still not sure which to get. they both sound good and both have good feedback.

neither will have any rasp with stock manifolds and cats
but with ORY and headers Hooker will have less if none at all
magnaflow might have a little...

Magnaflow here! No reason not to get stainless, at least that's how I think.

BlueKnight: Are those the tips that came on the catback when you ordered it? Cause mine definitely aren't rolled.

The hooker is all but loud with a stock setup. It was quieter with an ory then with a catted Y and loudmouth. At idle it is as quiet as stock (maybe a touch louder) but EVERYTHING changes with a cam

i have a magnaflow and its pretty quiet. even being cammed + longtubes+ ory u can bearly notice my cam lope. i think the magnaflow has a smooth, crisp kinda sound.

but i do like the hooker catback. i hear its not that loud, but i think it has a deeper rumble than magnaflow. both are very good catbacks. ive tossed around the idea of going with something louder..lol..

I have the hooker catback with TSP headers and I am not happy with it after about 4 months. Even the wife said it sounds kinda crappy.

I love my Hooker setup. Given it isn't stainless, it is a great catback. It all depends on whether you want stainless or not. IMO it sounds fantastic at WOT (NO rasp from ARH 1-3/4 / ORY) & it's very mellow when you're not.
Both catbacks are excellent for the money. It comes down to personal preferences...
