Magnaflow seems to rank pretty high on the flow, but is fairly quiet. The thing I looked at was Magnaflow is stainless while Hooker is aluminized (rusty).

I love my Hooker Cat-back. When i had it alone with just a lid it sounded awsome. way better then stock. Now with my Jet-Hot LT's w/out cats it sounds even better. The add a cam and it sounds even better. Now add a blower pushing even more exhaust out and..... Heaven. If you ask if it has any rasp im not sure what rasp sounds like, but if its anything like what mine sounds like then i love rasp. No rust here and i love the tips compared to the Magnaflow's.

Another vote for the Hooker Cat Back. I love mine, although with cat's it's kinda quiet.

I also am a big fan of the Hooker Catback, sounds mean as hell especially with LT's no cats, and a cam. Although I have had a few run ins with the po po's !

Magnaflow. Deep and mean but not too loud. Although, after I installed a LT and an ORY its perfect from idle to 2200. Then it has a little rasp until 3000. After that its crazy loud.

I've got the Hooker CB, wouldn't trade it for anything else except GMMG Inc. Thing sounds bad ***.. I have had no trouble with the cops around here, for exhaust anyway . Today I was in court for a speeding ticket and actually got a compliment on my car, AND the exhaust! The officer that had pulled be over said it sounded perfect BTW I ended up paying the ticket, but at least the cop was cool.

Go with the Hooker!

I sure hope mine just needs to be broken in, cause its not sounded much different than the dual/dual muffler I had before. I can tell a difference, a little louder, and deeper, but..... I dunno. That was the idea, to remain quiet, I have the cut-out when I really want to scare someone

My vote for Magnaflow. It sounds GREAT. But what do you want? Do you want it loud? Magnaflow is great at idle and really AWESOME when you get on it.

Magnaflow. Sounds great and flows very well. High quality stainless steel. Not too loud at lower RPMs- wakes up when you get on it.

If you compared both at the same time, you wouldnt have any trouble picking the Hooker. It just sounds deeper and looks better than the magna tips. They both flow real good, I doubt you'd be giving up power with either one. I say the Hooker for sound or the Magna for the looks. Both could benefit from some better exhaust tips.

I did not get the full Magnaflow Catback, I just got the muffler with some Corsa tips on my Formula. I love the sound. I was looking for a nice mellow, non-droning sound that sounds good all the way through the rev line (there is no rasp) as well as getting a few more ponies with a little better flow. I like it a lot, and it sounds like this may be the sound you want.
Good luck...remeber, whatever you choose...it will sound better than the stock setup.

Keep in mind, both of these systems are very quiet at idle and cruise on an otherwise stockish LS1. For instance, my friend has the Hooker cat-back on his '99 Formula and that thing is super quiet at idle. Just a little louder/deeper at cruise and does have a nice powerful sound at full throttle(but still not loud IMO). Magnaflow isn't really any different other than I like the Hooker tone better.

Try and hear them in person first before you spend the $$$...

I have the hooker catback with stock manifolds and with cats. It is very quiet at idle (near-stock). When revved it gets a pleasing and deep sound with little rasp, but still is not very loud.

That's my system Mike's talking about, btw.
