Default Best way to raise engine for motor mount swap

Like the title says, I am going to be putting LT Headers on my car and would like to replace my motor mounts while I'm at it, just not sure of the best way to raise engine for clearance, any input would be appreciated.

Ive never done this with an LS motor, I HAVE done it with big block and small block chevies in the past.

Just use a floor jack and a piece of wood (thick plywood works best) and go straight to the oil pan. Sounds crazy I know, but Ive never had any issues doing it and as long as you put a little bit of jack pressure on it, then take the bolt/bolts out and then jack it up you'll be fine.

this may get some negative comments but i took my belts off and lifted it from the balancer. but you can also get it on the oil pan. when i swapped to Spohn solids, i grabbed a chain and bolted it to the motor via the head bosses and lifted it with a cherry picker. much safer and easier on the mains i think.

I used the jack and block of wood method too. No problems here.

since you are doing the headers also, lift up your rear tires and put some car ramps on them , for the front, use your lift and put a yellow book or two and lift as high as possible put some nice heavy duty jack stands on both sides, the car will be pretty high up and room for you to change the y pipe and ****

i would never do the jack and wood method on my car even though it was offered to me by about 10 people in the past... autozone rents tools for free (charge you full price, return in full when return the tool) so you could just get an engine hoist

yep no prob, as long as you have 3 ton jack stands you're fine.. and a jack that doesn't suck like a 50 cent hooker

I been a part of two Poly MM Installs. I used a folded towel between the block of wood and the oil pan as a cushion. No troubles here. I've got a third install on the horizon and plan to use the same method.

Default header install clearance

I use an engine hoist and an intake manifold engine lift plate whe replacing motor mounts and oil pan on my old TA. Would work for headers too.

lol an engine lift just to lift the engine 2" to replace the mounts.... thats crazy! but to each their own. Just use a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan (something like a 2x4 thats 12 inches long), it distributes the load evenly across the pan and will lift it with no problem. The cast aluminum pan is actually stronger than the old sheet metal style oil pan.
