I didn't read all the posts on this thread but just wanted to mention this to everyone if not already. When installing the truck coils with the heat sinks in f-bodies copy the "Spark Dwell Time" tables from a truck pcm and take advantage of those heat sinks and gain a little more power.

That’s good advise, I’m sure anybody with the ability to modify the tables and has done the coil upgrade will do so.

Guys, I’m impressed that this thread I started has had so many hits, posts and people interested in the upgrade. While I realize it’s not a "newly discovered" upgrade as some guys had done the swap prior to the thread, this thread has made a lot of people aware of it and it’s also generated some sales for some of the sponsors. It’s also generated additional input like the existence of the Accel coils and the above mentioned spark dwell tables.

I realize, with how long the thread has become, few guys will read everything and will post redundant questions. To "fix" this, I’ll suggest a FAQ stickie be posted that can’t be replied to. A description of what it is, how to do it, suppliers, etc. It would simplify it for folks just coming on board. How do we go about doing this?

No. Sorry if my post was misleading. I am still single coil on my '94. The point of my post is that over the history of the car I have had two Accel coils go bad, so I do not trust Accel coils in general.

As you will notice in my post I refer to the single original coil. The car is and always has been single coil.

Thank you Petraszewsky. I just installed my set and I am headed out the door for a test drive ... I barely got the driver side secure, I left it connected with one bolt and will try and fiddle with it later. I need to go buy some fuel line disconnects, so I can better adjust the fitment with the fuel line out of the way.

I just skimmed thru the 25 pages here. While this does sound very interesting and I am not trying to sound negative at all here. The only conclusive solid A vs B comparison we have is from the OP who swapped out a set of 155K mile LS1 coils for a set of truck coils? Again please dont take this post wrong this was an interesting read.

That's correct, I'm the only one that did a back-to-back dyno test. While others have not, they've still reported better throttle response, power "feel" and some better fuel economy.

I'm hoping somebody else will also do a back-to-back dyno test.

JFM, you in the LIFBA?

I disagree....The bodies/casings are larger and my multimeter shows a higher reading on them than the stock D585s.....among other differences...

Oh and I believe the megasquirt page has the dwell times listed....

I'd still like to see an A vs B comparison in black and white. A solid 8-10 RWHP gain and 15-18ft lbs and this is no doubt a worthwhile mod.

Same here. Didn't read every single post, but got the jist of the thread. Would be cool to see some before/after results from a stock car, bolt-on car, H/C car just to see if the gains are consistant for all of the cars over the LS1 coils.

JFM, you in the LIFBA?
I had a car that had a stock coil internal ckt die. He changed the coils to truck coils but also moved from a stock descreened MAF to an 85mm SLP MAF and different lid. The change of all of these parts netted 7rwhp. I attributed it to the lid and MAF personally, but I guess it could possibly be minorly debated.

The span of time between dyno sessions was about 6 weeks. The car was a full boltons car.

If your tuner needs YOU to get him these values, I would consider 'shopping around'.

Even if it doesn't yeild any more power, it's good to know that you are upgrading to a better factory part.
