Its amazing how the trucks and suvs get the better rear ends, coil packs and high output alternators.

Default Truck coils

Nice gain !

I've been running the truck coils for a while. There a lil larger and they also mount a lil higher on the valve covers.

Not amazing at all. Many of the trucks are subject to severe duty by their buyers, so GM includes that stuff. Think about contractors, hunters, off-road enthusiasts, etc. etc. etc.

My f-bods are also sometime subject to "severe duty", but not the same type.

I used to have a Suburban I beat the **** out of constantly. Off-Roading, towing, racing ( if you could call it that, 8000lbs lol ) hell i drove it through water that was over the hood. got up to about 110mph, jumped the railroad tracks with 9 people in it LOL.

because of people like me they have to be heavy duty.

Default Coils

If you grab those off ebay, you'll still need the mounging bracket. Which I think is different then the stock ls1 coils.

Any truck with a 4.8, 5.3 or a 6.0 should have them

I know my 02 4.8 does.

You need the D585, truck coils. They will look like the one in the link. They have a thin mounting point and a small heat sink sticking out on the back of them.

We have a pick and pull here in NM most of the coils get pulled but brackets should still be intact. I am loooking to see what the other harnesses are and see if you can get those off ebay also. I just have to go back a few pages.

You need (8) coils, (2) brackets, (2) wiring harnesses. The wiring harness have different pinouts to the coils, but I don't even think the plugs are the same.

Also, if by chance, you still have the factory ls1 wires, you'll have to go with a longer set like the ls2 wires or the MSD's.

I bought mine off a seller on here, complete, ready to be bolted on. I went into the spark dwell and added 1.0 second to the whole table, which is a conservative addition.

If you email that seller he will tell you those are aftermarket knock offs made overseas...NOT A GM product.

It makes sense what you are saying, but I did some research, and gm stopped using the 585 coil in 2007. From there on up, in the HD trucks and all they went back to the ls2 coils (D514) Why do you guys think they stopped using the D585 if they were so much stronger? Just wondering.

Maybe cost savings vs. not needing the higher spark energy. Maybe they did a test study and found the new ls2 coils sufficient.
