Default Rattle in stock y-pipe?????

OK I was under the car trying to locate and fix a few rattles and squeaks, while I was under the car I banged on the exhaust and it would rattle . I checked all of the bolts and hangers and everything is tight.

Could the cats be coming apart???

If so it's time for headers

I also noticed that I have a rattle near the gas tank. If I bang on the hatch area above the tank something vibrates, it also does it if tap on the tank form underneath. The tank strap bolts are tight .

TIA

Bang on the cats themselves. If they sound like rocks are shaking around in there, the cats have broken apart inside. Happened to me.

Mine will do that on the passanger side. I discovered its the rear 02 sensor. Not sure why it is doing it, nothing looks loose on the 02 sensor itself. If I take it out, no more rattle. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the threads in the y-pipe and on the 02 sensor aren't threading against each other tight enough causing the rattle.

I would check your o2s. If you change the cat back then your pretty much garaunteed an o2 rattle on the drivers side by the cat. It may be the same for adding a cut out but I'm not sure.

It is more of a metal against metal sound. I don't hear it when I'm driving the car, only if I bang on the y-pipe.

My exhaust is completely stock with a 3.5" cutout. I'm just going through the entire car to eliminate some rattles and squeaks.

Everything is tight under the car.

Yeah, thats how mine sounds, metal against metal. Basically, to me, its sounds like when I bang on the y-pipe that there are a bunch of BB's rattling around in there.

If that is similar to yours, its more than likely one of both rear 02's. Could always just take them off and bang on the y-pipe and see if it still makes the sound to eliminate them as being the cause. Good luck.

i had a pretty loud rattle in my car when i first got it.. it was coming from underneath. i got the bmr tunnel brace and as soon as i put it on all the rattles went away.. the one day i had to put my car on the lift for something and it wouldnt fit with the tunnel brace.. so i took it off and put the stocker back on.. the rattle was back.. then i put the brace back on after i was done with the lift and it was once again gone, i think hte y pipe may have been hitting the y pipe, anyway it helped my rattles so u may want to pick one up i think there 89.99 at thunderracing just my 2 cents

another thing may be the crossmember behind your tranny. all it does it hold the exhaust up. i've seen a few now where the pipe will settle in the crossmember and make a rattling sound. i just take it off. my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info guys. I have had the g-load brace off the car for over 4 years now. There is a ton of clearance and every nut and bolt are tight. It's probably just the rear O2's.

It only makes the noise when I bang on the y-pipe with my hand. Since I don't hear it while driving I'll leave it alone.

What is it about the O2s that's rattling?

Mine does this as well. It will do it if I bang on the Y-pipe by hand or even when sitting idling.

My O2s are tight. So what about them causes it?

Right where the wire connects are free floating collars that allow the wire mesh the spin. They rattle.. tape works wonders
