Default Better Y pipe cure rasp?

I have the Hooker Y pipe now and as we all know the collector is less than desirable. I'm looking at doing a 3 inch y pipe with a flowmaster collector. I have a bullet muffler right now and on powershifts it will tap the underside a little so I'm looking to get ride of that, but trying to keep the rasp down. Do you think I'll pick up any power with the better flowing collector?

The hooker y kinda sucks cause not only does it reduce the end from a 3 inch y to a 2.whatever it also has the exhaust paths running right into each other instead of forming a nice smooth bend. I has a crapload of rasp with it. I was also thinking that a smoother flowing y pipe would eliminate the rasp and some members have been able to reduce the rasp some by getting a smoother y. I ended up going duals jsut incase but I bet the rasp will be gone or at least alot better with a better y.

I would love to run duals, but I love my B&B catback too much to lose those tips out back. I'll probably give it a try with the better Y and see how it does. I'll be sure to post up with results assuming I can find someone local that can do it. Kinda slim pickings around here for decent exhaust shops!

it depends on a lot of things, my old grotts with a 3" cstom Y and flowmaster collector rasped like crazy with a hooker cat back. It was so bad I put cats on it but the cats hurt me more then I expected and I gutted them. With the the gutted cats there was zero rasp. Same with the macs I have on my car now, with the gutted MAC cats there is no rasp at all. Even with the magnaflow and gutted cats there was zero rasp, I swapped a MAC ORP on before I gutted the cats and it was horrible with the magnaflow..

It surprised me how much those hollowed out cats kill the rasp..

I vouch for this. Tally's setup sounds great.

I think the rasp is caused by unequal length ypipes.

Rasp on the LSx engines must have gotten GMs attention.
If you look at the new 2005 Corvette specs that were
just released. GM is using a "larger volume muffler" with something
called "tri-flow" technology, to get rid of 'unwanted' noise,
in the 1,500-2,400rpm range. They haven't released any
details as to what this 'tri-flow' technology is. Hopefully
this will be something that we can do to our cars...
