Default MAF opinion of what i should buy

My '00 ss is bone stock besides a k&n.. and my mass air is in need of repacing. I eventually plan on modding my car w/ all the usual bolt ons and a cam.

Only thing is, I HATE spending money on stock parts on a car like this. Yes it will fix the problem, but would it be better to go ahead and get an SLP mass air? or an 85mm from a c5 Z or escalade?

Ive had plenty of fbodys and mustangs but have never messed with changing the mass air cuz i knew they had to work with your injectors and require a tune.

So i guess the question is... will an SLP maf or zo6 mass air screw up the way my car runs right now with just a quick bolt on installation? or will it need some kind of tuning?? and will i see a power gain AT ALL???

will it be good to have now for future mods?

You can usually find a used stocker for pretty cheap. The stock unit will support 500hp without a problem. If you upgrade to an 85mm you WILL need tuning. Being that your car is still stock you prolly wont see any power gains. maybe a tad better throttle response but that would be about it until you start modding more. I have a stock unit that hasnt even been descreened if your interested. It was pulled from a stock 99 fbody in good working order. PM me if so.

The SLP MAF will work with your stock PCM, if you get a different MAF like the Z06 etc. it will need to be calibrated.

This is one of the few parts on our cars I've heard is best to leave stock until it is limiting you. MAF's are just so damn touchy with everything...

Leave it stock until you need to go bigger. The SLP MAF requires tuning.... I'm still running a stock MAF.

Just get a stock one, very inexpensive. Do some research and you will find tons of complaints and issues with the SLP MAF.

I thought the MAF from SLP is a C5 Z06 but tunned for our cars. Am I wrong here?
