Making a stock ls1 exhaust sound better
Does anyone know a cheep way to do this? Not like i want to slap a ricer tip and go around buzzing like your cuzin belo, but I'm tired of hearing nothing but high pitched muffled sound whenever i am WOT. I actually want to hear something and enjoy the deep sound of the engine without forking out $400+ for a loudmouth series. Ive considered cut outs but they are way to loud, and still a good dollar.. Is there any modding that can be done to help??

The LM1 muffler is going to require alot of modification to get it to work with the stock catback because the LM1 muffler is not in the rear of the car it is before the axle. But a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler can replace the stock muffler really easy and give you a better sound and a little more power. I would HIGHLY recommend the magnaflow as I think its one of the best sounding exhausts/mufflers for our cars

I went out and looked at my 00' z28 and i believe the muffler is right behind the rear tires. There is 2 holes looks like 2.5" & 3" and a single 2.5" on the other. The 3" pipe coming from the exhaust, and the two 2.5"s going to the tips. Can anyone confirm these sizes? After the part comes in would all that needs to be done replace and weld the new muffler on?

Edit: I just went out and measured more accutatly, the intake on the muffler is noticably bigger~2.7" the two out to the tips are smaller at 2.3". Is 3" and 2.5" just rounded or what? Anyways it appears like this flowmaster should work i just dont know much about this so i need to check

So now that its on its way i need to figure out how im gunna slap that **** on. After getting pricing from local muffler shops the norm is $60 bucks, around 1 hour of time. I dont see how it can be that hard.. just hack the old one off and weld the new on right? I've heard of some people welding 3 bolt flanges instead of a direct weld..Any suggestions on DIY? Since im in school its a little harder then just jacking it up at home and getting the old welder out, but i may be able to use the schools.

Magnaflow. Stay away from flowmaster they are very restrictive and sound like blahhh. I have ran them on two of my cars in the past, now I have magnaflow and wont go back to blowmaster.

ahh haha too late on the FM i'm sure anything is gunna beat the stocker. Ill let yall know how i like it or not. My main thing is how im gunna get it on there without paying the price of the thing again just to !@#%! put it on there!
as far as a cutout i did consider them, but those are soo loud and obvious. Sides, sounds good and deep runing through a exhaust not just loud as hell IMO

$60 is fair if he's going to fab up a pair of 2.5 tailpipes for it. It's a little stiff if he's just going to weld it in to the existing piping.
Since the sizing is different between the FM and the stock pipes, he'll have to lay down some thick beads. It'll take a little time. In all fairness, I can see an hour between in the door and out.
You will like how it sounds once it's in.

I have never liked Flowmaster either, but to each their own.
I have had Hooker catbacks on every f-body I have owned (except my formula, but I will eventually). They sounds really good without being overly loud and annoying. Plus they are supposed to flow very well.
Long tube headers with the stock catback sounds pretty good also.
