Where are you guys buying the "German" Castrol? The only place I've seen it is on AutoZone's website, and they want $8 a quart. Does autozone ever run oil/filter specials like advance auto?

What is funny is most people have the same comments in this thread...

1. Use "such oil and such filter" no complaints.
What do you have this to compare to? The car starts up and doesn't throw a rod so it's good?

2. Don't use such and such....
What information do you have to back this up? I read it on the internet once so it's the truth.

People are like a bunch of lemmings.

Let's see what else....Flowmaster's kill power and comp 918's are junk and you can't make power with small cams and ahh....I'm done.

I am sure there are a few and very few people in this thread that actually do have good info regarding anyone of these but not many.

Don't be a sheep.

Run the oil that is recommended in your service manual and change it regularly....

I use cheap walmart 5w30 non-syn and a cheap walmart filter. My oil gets changed every 500-700 miles though.

Yes they do. Every 3 months or so. We go through all the major brands in an order. One Autozone month it is Valvoline, then Castrol then Penzoil and so forth. Usually $27-$29.99 depending on the filter it is being paired with.

Even Pep Boys has the same sales.

Pep Boys will price-match an Auto Zone sale price and vice-versa.

This past year, Auto Zone had the Castrol sale paired with K&N oil filters.

I've used Royal Purple 5W-30 based on some independent test results I found doing research online. Some of the oils out there that are main stream didn't really perform as well as one would expect when tested under loads. Synthetics will always be better for reducing friction. Less friction = less wear= less heat. Anytime you can reduce friction and heat in an engine, it will actually result in some HP gains. As far as filters go, I have tried K&N twice, and each time I noticed lower oil presuure readings and weird noises from the engine I never had beforehand. First time it happened I thought it was a fluke, changed filters to one I have used for many, many years (Purolator PureOne) and symptoms went away. Next oil change tried K&N again thinking first one was defective, guess what, it happened again. Can't explain it. Maybe because they filter down to such a low micron level, they are actually putting flow resistance in the system, and just maybe my oil pump dosen't like it. But two out of two times is enough for me to know this combo won't work on my car.
