Default ls1 oil changes...

So what is the best to use?

Synthetic of course.

What brand/model oil filter and how many quarts? anything special like you can add half a quart if swapping the filter out too etc?

Whats it take 5w30, 10w30? thanks

Agreed. I use Mobil1 5x30, WIX filter, however I use the bigger one. WIX 51522. Trust me, you'll see the difference.

Hold the one it calls for, then get the 51522 and put them next to each other. More filter is better and it wont trip into bypass mode so fast.

Non Synthetic cheapo 5W-30. I've picked up more HP non synthetic due to better ring seal. Also, oil in the intake has been drastically reduced.

I've always used the German Castrol but may switch now to Castrol Edge or Penzoil Platinum soley cause Walley World sells the 5 qt jugs of these cheap. Ohh ya I use the Delco PF 61 filter I believe it is.

Would cam and heads, matter much for which weight to use? (I'm going to do an oil change today and wondered about which weight to use in hot and humid southern Louisiana.

I use German Castrol 0w-30 when I can get it, or Royal Purple 10w-30. I also use K&N oil filters- I love the 1" nut on the end of it, letting me use a wrench instead of those crappy filter wrenches. The only thing "special", if you even want to call it that, is fill the filter with oil before installing it. Prevents the engine from running for a few seconds on no oil. Probably common knowledge, but you never know- I didn't when I first started changing my oil.

What ^^ said- "prime" the oil filter to avoid the oil starvation "knock" from an empty oil filter!

Your going to get a million different answers...Last change I used a Tough Guard fram filter (yes fram, but they seem to be alot better then the base filter) w/ Pennzoil Ultra...valvetrain has never been so quiet...

Why do you need a filter wrench, its not like its hard to get to and spin it by hand.
