Default Pace Setter Y Pipe before/after modification...

Take a look at the inside of the Pace Setter Y pipe looking in from the drivers side after removal.

I can't believe they left the hole smaller than the pipe ID. And look at all the weld build up they left. If you install this thing the way it comes I don't see how you will reach the hp potential of the headers.

Here is the way I modified my pipe with the Flowmaster collector. I have the dual 3" x 3 1/2". No weld slag in my collector! Following are pics before and after the install.

You have to view from the drivers side. Here's a view from my passenger side.

Looks similar to yours. Still looks pretty bad even from this side.

You would have to had cut the drivers side off to get a pic of what I am showing you. Mine is cut. My pic with the weld build up is the flow path from the drivers side into the collector.

I did the same thing with my Hooker Y-Pipe. It cut down on the rasp A LOT. Sounds a lot better.

Except I don't see the crush in yours that is in mine on that drivers side. Did you eliminate the crushed portion? Is that a Pace Setter header?

I really don't understand why Pace Setter is spending money crushing this pipe when the fix is just to make the header collector centerline slightly lower. 1/2"-1" longer on each header tube would fix it. Yes, it would give slightly less ground clearance but it would work and we wouldn't be having all these fit problems. Makes no sense!

I emailed them over a week ago with multiple pics and a solution but never heard a word.

Its ridiculous how some header companies take the time to make long tubes only to bottleneck it with a crappy ypipe.

I'm doing this to my Hooker y pipe in a week or so. Thanks for the info fellas. Did you take the y pipe off and have the welding done or did you do it on the car? How much did it help with the rasp? Looking forward to seeing your pics also Mike.

Hey John, I was going to post the pics on your thread as well, but Larry's right on target with his.. Mine is almost identical to his with some minor differences of course.. I will still post the pics if you guys want to see them when I get home tonite.. The rasp is pretty much gone with the new set-up, but the car seems to be louder than the Macs at wot.

That will work Mike. I'm staying up and waiting! Wife is already asleep so what else is there to do besides look for ways to spend money on the car.
