I haven't seen an SLP off-road Y, just the one for
stock w/ cats (which I have). I believe Mufflex and
maybe Bassani make them (ORs). Ditching the cats for
smooth pipe will net you something, if you're in a
place where you can get away with it. Another
alternative and cheaper might be the Mufflex tubes
that replace just the cats. These can be found used,
as can the stock-fit ORYs, making it a better value
(and resellable when you get around to doing it the
right way, at a lower hit).

Getting rid of the stock cats for a larger diameter ORY will get you as much as 10hp through a good catback or cutout. Hardly a waste, if you can buy one used for cheap. I say that because, if you plan to do headers later then the expense of buying new is not worth it.

If your Not going to be able to afford headers for a while and you want An ORY to just bolt up ... Mac makes a good one Check it out and its not to expensive ... as long as you have a catback ... you should pick up a decent gain..... but if you plan on getting headers .. dont buy it it's a waste of money!!!

sounds like if I do this with stock headers it would not be worth it... I guess the best bet would be to just save up and buy both at once.
Thanks for the replies

Hey don't sweat it. I just got the SLP y for 75 bucks without shipping. There are some good used ones out there. I am getting divorced. So, the header route was out of the question (damn). After installation it was worth it to me. I am going to buy OR pipes next. Hopefully, I will have enough money next yr or sooner.
Good luck whatever ya do.

2000 TA,,customer took off the stock Y and cats.Installed the Bassini Y-pipe with no cats and gained 15hp 15tq across the whole power band. This was with the car tuned before for max power and after. So no tuning tricks to help power gain...I think the Y is a great mod and well worth it if you don't want to do longtubes.
