I went with a dumped exhaust when I installed my Watts link, since my muffler was in the way, plus I wanted the additional clearance above the Axle tube for my lowered ride height, and the cleaner look of no pipes in the rear!
I liked the way my mine sounded!![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
FYI, don't point the turn-down straight down(180*) turn it to the side some, any where from 150* minimum, to 100* maximum if possible without pointing it directly on anything you don't want the exhaust heat directly on. Putting it at a angle will cut down on drone.
Here's what I just removed, to go with a slightly different (dumped) setup.

My new setup will have a 5" case, 3" in/out Magnaflow muffler into a 90*L shaped pipe with a turn down pointing almost straight back (probably around 110*).

Well, I want the most free flowing exhaust I can of course. It's also a fairly cheap route, otherwise I'd be having TDs.. The few that I heard I thought sounded pretty good and alot more tame and deep than a cutout. I don't really care for the flowmaster anymore I liked it and it's deep but really tame and almost restrictive sounding, I want to switch it up now.. But that's why I wanted to get a better feel of it cause I did searches and didn't find too much on here to listen to or see.
Thanks for the posts and experience info keep it coming good or bad!

They usually run an X or H on them(duals), but they sound WWWWWAAAYYYY better than a dumped Y. You also know that with either you are going to have a ton more noise in the car than a full system, right?

It's a 4" dia. 3" in/out. A little raspy, not much drone, fairly quiet while cruising, but screams when you open her up!
That was w/shorty headers $ cats, and stock cam.
My new setup is going to be with a 227/231 111lsa cam, AFR 205's, BBK LT headers w/ORY; I'm just waiting on a few parts to get it back together.

here are a few of my 3 inch y dumped with no cats and mufflers. the video does not do justice to how loud it is.. i got on it one time onto an on ramp for a highway, a friend who was outside of their house over a mile away called and asked if i was racing down a street a block away.

I wonder what has a better sound -- one in the I-pipe, or two in the Y-pipe?
Ya could use one of these:

a cut out is 4523525323 times better with one in the I over 2 before the y... now if you do 2 after a cross over sounds good as well.

I would hook up the catback to it and do an electric cutout where most people are dumping their Y's at. That way you get the quiet when you want/need(like when a cop is behind you), but can also have it loud when you want!

I've never really cared for the sound of magnaflow to be honest.. The cars I've heard them on sound fairly quiet ad muffled at cruise or idle and a bit raspy at wot.. That's my opinion though. Two of my friends haven't liked them when they had them..

I have a Dynatec split-flow dumped off a 4" flowmaster merge and custom y. I think it sounds amazing. No rasp, just a clean, deep, and loud rumble. I am going to have to have some work done on mine as it will not fit through my new UMI short tq arm tunnel brace mount. No sound clips though. And this is the only picture i have were it can be seen
![](http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp186/black99transam/dsc08395.jpg)
And heres a pic of the y off the car

the dumped y is considerably louder. cut out is the best way to go imo, best of both worlds. i am in the process of trying to put some sort of exhaust on the car either duals or a finished y pipe into cat back setup. either way i will be going with cutout/s.
