Default AIR Restriction made out of Galvanized Steel? **Pic***

Went to Home Depot the other night and as I'm wandering around the place like Anderson from Beavis and Butthead (their old neighbor who gets lost in the mega store looking for tile if I recall)

Anyway, I ask a worker to point me to the sheet metal. He takes me to all this galvanized steel used for guttering and stuff. Well I was like.. uh.. okay... I figure 37 cents isn't gonna kill me.

This stuff is friggen flimsy! I was able to cut it with some sissors like thick paper.

Will this work or do I need something thicker? Where does one get actual sheet metal?

Should work fine... your not going to be putting much pressure against it, so it should be ok. Worst case scenario is double up on them and you'll be fine.

I was more worried about the stuff melting and doing who knows what kind of damage to my o2s, Cats, or Muffler.

It wont melt, if you are going to use them put a nice bead of Hightemp RTV down before you put the plate. If you weld Galvanized steel it makes toxic fumes, I dont know how hot it would have to get to make these fumes, might want to check that out

I'm using the same stuff for my egr block off, like 00REDZ28 said put some high temp RTV around it (black in color) to help prevent any leaks.

Since that metal is so thin, it might warp and cause a leak. Using a nice amount of that RTV will help. I just found some like 1/16" aluminum and it worked great even without a gasket.

Your title says you're making restrictor plates, not block off plates. If this is correct that material will work just fine You want to drill a 3/16 hole in the center and forget the RTV crap and just use a stock gasket on either side of the restrictor plate. It won't warp being sandwiched between the flange and the AIR tube.

Oh, sorry, yeah.. I'm making restrictor plates.. I just haven't drilled the holes yet. I've also got 4 brand new AIR gaskets so I can sandwich the restrictor plate.

I'm surprised the tube doesn't come restricted from the header. Do any header companies restrict the tube to begin with?

I used something similar, thin steel used as a perforation for gardening, and I was able to cut it with scissors.

I wouldnt use it as a blockoff plate, but it'll work fine for a restrictor.

I made a temporary EGR blockoff plate from 16 guage sheetmetal. Worked perfect. For a restrictor that should be fine.

Restricts exhaust gasses from going back up the AIR tubes and burning out the check valves or causing them to flutter. Seems to be a problem with some headers for some reason. A 3/16 hole will let enough air to pass to keep from setting amy AIR pump codes.

Thumbs up I know where!!!

My dad owns a steel shop and I have pretty much every metal you can imagine. If you gave me the dimensions of what you wanted and what you wanted it made of I could have it cut. You would have to pay for the shipping to where ever it needs to go.
