I didnt run the sheet metal version. I cut a two small holes in the core support, covered with mesh screen to avoid large debris in the filter, ran hose to the bumper grill, cut a small piece of the foam out. I didnt want to do much metal cutting due to safety but along with the stock plastic air dam that runs air up to the box I think it should be a little better airflow than stock with a lid.

One knock on the SLP CAI is that its stainless construction
makes it a bad heat absorber; you can see IAT come way
up swapping one of these onto a stock-cold-air car.

If I were you I'd consider something like ABS sheet, easy
to cut and solvent- or hot-air weld, capable of forming
with a heat gun, cheap and available in basic black. Way
lower thermal conduction and heat-mass than steel.

But consider, too, that airflow is helped only a little and
where you draw from (temperature) matters more than
cross-section forward of the filter element.

Here ya go. Sorry, no writeup. I handfabbed the aluminum top & butterflies. Functional linkage to throttle body. Sits over conical filter, has plastic bottom. Had to lower core support & radiator in vehicle to make room.
While not everybody likes the look, it is functional.
