Default Car spins but wont run unless you jump

My 2002 trans am will spin over but will not run unless you jump it i put a new battery and new cables. Even tried the battery out of a freind of mines car just to be sure. Im not sure if its a ground problem or maybe a short or something. the alternator is putting out 14.8v. The car it will cranks up on its own for a little while after the jump but if you wait about 15 mins it starts back just spinning. Im not sure what to check. Someone please help lol

What do you mean......"it starts back just spinning." After 15 minutes of the engine running.

Do you mean that after 15 minutes of it running...you tuen the engine OFF, then if you try to start it again (without a jump) it will only turn-over...but not start up?

So....it will start and run for 15 minutes.....then if you shut it OFF after that 15 minutes, it will start up ON ITS OWN...but then after awhile it won't run? Meaning it will shut off on its own?

Right, but if you let it run after it has been jump-started.....does it run 100% normally after that as long as its running?

So really.....you're only problem is: you need a jump start to get it started, right?

Otherwise, it runs normally after its started.......

Well jeez....you need to replace that TPS sensor. I was going to also say you could have a seriously dirty MAF....Do you have a K&N filter?

Fuel tank/do you have fuel? No insult to you.........fuel pump working??????

Fuel filter? Dirty/clogged
worn plugs?
Broken/loose wires ignition circuit?
Dirty injectors?
Bad ground/dirty terminals?
Timing chain? Not likely if car runs with jump?
Does battery have voltage after the 15 minute wait?
Hang in there you can do it!!!!!!!!!!! Use the process of elimination......
Fuel/fire-ignition/compression...........she will run.......have a blessed day!!!!

Well, if its bad it will effect throttle position and fuel delivery.

You do have a code for it.

Look, go get a new one, slap it on and see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't.....take the part back and tell them its the wrong one because someone modded your throttle body and you couldn't even try it. Tell them you COULD NOT put it on at all. They will give you a refund. They have to.

I guess it could be a loose ground, but that usually causes allot of issues...and it won't throw a TPS code.

TL / DR

Check your ground cable. My buddy's stratus did the same thing. It was a bad negative battery cable.

Did you reuse battery terminals? If so, clean them with a terminal tool.

Did you clean the mating surface to the starter and wherever you have the ground hooked up?

Make sure you replace the starter relay too.

I am going to have to re read this thread because it's all over the place.

Do you need two batterys or a jump to get the car to turn over?

After you try and turn it over feel the battery cables and see if one is hot.

As thunder said check the grounds. If you are having electric problems it can show itself in other areas too.

If I am reading it right and you need a jump to get the thing to start there's a good chance the starter is pulling to many amps and needs to be replaced. Start with the basics and go from there.

If its turning over I wouldn't replace the starter relay.
