TR6 gapped at .030 here...I believe it was SSperformance that tested different spark gaps on the dyno and this gap on their cam only setup gave the highest hp...this is going off memory though but i either read it or spoke through pm...

The only thing you want a colder plug for, is to prevent dieseling (or
preignition). Maybe you need it for a big shot or forced induction, but
not for a regular motor.

TR55IX @ 0.050 for me, been fine for many 10Kmiles and I just pulled
them and they were fine.

You only need narrow gap if your spark is weak or your cylinder
pressure is so high that the spark can't jump at WOT. Otherwise, you
are only reducing the spark energy for nothing.

Was wondering. Any sponsors doing a deal on plugs and wires? Putting the long tubes in and feel its time to change them. Looking for ngk 55's and some wires.

Of course I find this thread a month AFTER I installed my new TR6's. I'm with OP though. I haven't done plugs since about 2006 or so.

to be honest it isn't going to matter either way...I used to run the 55's when I was cam only and switched to the 6's now since I am almost at 12:1 cr with the new setup...

I'm still at stock compression.. Never changed out the head gaskets and I have stock heads

SCR= 10.37:1

DCR= 8.28:1

I jsut wanted to throw in tbhe DCR bc you and I were talking about them last week...

I may go with TR55s and GMS wires

What should I gap the TR55s at Chris?

You want to run wide as gap as possible. I would say somewhere around .050-.055 should be optimal for your setup. The tighter you gap your plugs, the less spark energy,, wich causes incomplete burn... that means less fuel mileage. Higher cylinder pressures caused by increased compression, nitrous, or forced induction require "tighter gaps" to keep the spark from blowing out.

Well with taht being said.. Then I'm gonna switch to the TR55s and gap them at .045 - .050

Now where can I get NGK plugs local?

11.8:1 SCR here. I run TR5 or TR55 gapped @ .046" & 26* timing @ WOT up to 6700 RPM. No issues to report. Spark delivered through truck coils & MSD wires.

TR5=solid tip, TR55=threaded on tip. Otherwise, it's the same plug.

I'd say TR55's gapped .050" or so. You want the largest gap you can run without the spark blowing out (none of that .030" stuff on a stock compression cam only engine!)!

I was on NGKs website and all they have at TR5s.. Do they still make TR55s?

What's a better plug.. TR5s or TR55s?

What's so special about the Iridiums?

Yes we stock them. The only difference in the TR5 and TR55 was the gap out of the box. Same heat range and all.

On an LS1 short-block (flat-top) and those chambers, I'd run the TR6 due to the higher compression. The OP in this thread still has the stock/big chambers.
