I agree, for something that is only done about once every 3 months. I will take an extra 1 min to get a socket out of the toolbox for the added security of it not 'accidentally' opening

My uncle has them on a fleet of semi trucks.
They work well and take a good amount of pressure to release and it's also a notched slider so you have to press it up and slide it at the same time. If I hold one in my hand I can't get enough leverage to unlock and slide it without it twisting from my grip.
You could also fashion a rubber wedge or something to lock it from being able to by pushed above the notch if you're really worried about a freak stick.

I've been changing my own oil since the '70s and never
felt the need to improve on the drain plug concept. But
I guess if you feel the need to change oil in a sweater
and not bother your manicure there's somebody with a
product for you.
But wait... there's more!

LOL, would you like to wear a white suit while changing it as well? Its not hard to keep from making a mess if your not just lazy & sloppy. But to each their own. I personally just dont like the idea of something sticking out of the pan like that reguardless of weather the lockin mechanism is quality or not. One piece of road debris you couldnt avoid for some reason & it could break it off flush with the pan & then your in for a really fun repair getting that unthreaded from the pan.
Again to each their own. I just find it as another useless invention or something to make people even lazier.

I have personally seen a cone hit (at an autocross) open a fumoto valve and dump oil on the course. The motor was saved due to some very quick actions of the driver. Probably a one in a million freak event, but still.

I have one on my Subaru. Makes changing oil so much easier because on that car when you would unscrew the drain plug it would literally be an explosion of oil downward way different with fbodies and having the drain plug on the side of the oil pan. I don't even think one would fit well on an fbody if you have long tube headers.
I'm not worried about mine opening, it takes a decent bit of pressure to push it up and then you have to turn it. Also helps that the Subaru has an undershield that protects everything down there though.

Yes, their have been several incidents where road debris caused the valve to open, from what I have researched, their are two safeguards to prevent this unauthorized release, one is a simple safety pin and the other is screwing the correct size wire nut onto the drain tube, FWIW.
