II ran 8.4@84 with my 98 with a lid and exhaust. about six months later cam only 7.5s@92.. about year later heads cam intake 7.2s@97 spinning pretty bad.
I didn't mod all at once, I bought parts when i could.

My current car, i shave .1 or less off every year at the track.. It's just as much fun as knocking .5 off, more of a challenge.

With a stock car on drag radials with an auto it shouldn't make any difference.

Have you ever raced a car at the drag strip before?

No I haven't. I have been driving for a couple of years now and I know good and well the difference between a 13 second car and a 9 second car.

Not even sure what that is supposed to mean...

But your going to be pretty nervous, and prone to making mistakes. I suggest you do alot of watching before you take your first trip down the track.

but you haven't followed anyone elses advice in this thread so why start now right?

hmmm... alright. Im pushing 12.7 just cause its making me feel better lol. I find it hard to believe a lid, MAF, stock 2001 ls6 intake, headers, trans mount, radials, panhard bar, and 3.23's wont make 12.7 on an average night. wait, i already said that....

Sorry, maybe you should start at page 1. At this point, im getting info from these guys on what I already have and what it will do at the track. im getting info on what I need to do down the road too since dad wont let me buy high performance parts now...

I broke it down for you already.

Lid is good for only around 7rwhp, if that.
A stock maf is good for around 500rwhp, even at that without a larger diameter lid and th its not doing much good. And even on that, usually autos benefit less than manuals from a maf.
Stock intake, its not a mod.
Headers and ory is good for around 25-maybe 30rwhp.
Trans mount and panhard won't do much of anything at your level.
Radial will only minimally help since you would hook on a good street tire at the track.
323s are stock.. At that, autos don't gain much if any switching gears. Not like manuals.
Tune will be god for around 10-15rwhp maybe.

Roughly every 10rwhp at your level is worth .1 and 1 mph, give or take. Most stock ls1s run mid13s@105 or so, you do the math.
13.0 would be a good goal... If you got a strong runner and have some good air you might shave another tenth or two off.

Hang around the strip and the drag racing results a bit more and you will know more of what cars run stock and with xxxxx mods.

Pushing 12.7 now will break your heart on your first track pass most likely. Push 13.0 and be a happy camper.

ok... I understand all of that. Im not sure why the trans shop told me I would have a good mid 12 second car. They wouldn't lie to me and they have never let us down with the 15 years we have done business with them. Since I know the trans shop people well, Im taking their advice and combining it with the hearty info of you guys who have wasted time on me. So, Im hoping for a solid 12.7 car. That will make me a happy camper.

If the stars all align and you make some clean passes, sure 12's are possible. I think what most of us are doing here is just trying to tell you to not be so heart broken if it doesn't happen.

On a side note i should have stayed out of this thread.

I know what to do at the strip. wait till your up, get your back tires wet, do a smokey burnout, then stage your car, wait till the lights drop and as soon as you know that light is turning green, drive it like you stole it.

Only time will tell then. You guys say one thing, the trans shop says another and the vicious cycle continues. It sucks knowing I can't run mid 12's without a stall, nos, or turbo.

A 9 second car is nothing amazing or hard to do with ls motors. Heads cam on a 200 hit would easily achieve that.
You getting butt hurt because I'm saying these shop guys don't know quite what you think they do is comical.
I'll say it because I don't give a ****.. I'm not wrong, period. You will not touch 12.5, not close, if you aren't running somewhere like ATCO in the late fall, straight not going to happen.
You keep talking about it because you don't like the fact that you won't run what full bolt on stalled auto cars are running and you can't mod to get there. You got your answer from multiple experienced senior members pages ago, this thread is done and dead.
Throwing in my face they have 9 second cars. Awesome.
Hope you hit your mark and have a good time getting there.
