16 yo wants an Fbody in the low 12s.. meanwhile I pay 1/10th of the value of my car every 6 months for insurance.

at least I don't have to wonder why.

not saying you're a bad driver.. just.. inexperienced. Street racing is VERY dangerous and from what I've seen on the.. 1.. occasion that my dog of a car spun tires with the stock setup, it will kick out really fast. When I was a young man 16/17 I had an suv that ran 12s.... to 60. I loved it for 5 years though (owned it for 7.) One time I hit a dirt road with it at 45.. lost control.. hit a mound of dirt head on that was leftover from scraping the road.

Building the car up gradually and dealing with things like this that WILL happen over time.. is probably a good route for you. That way as you become a more experienced driver, you'll have these experiences and not rip the car in half.

I think this is probably why my parents gave me the suv.. I wanted my dad's 86 k10 but my mother said it wasn't safe for me. I didn't have a "fast" car until I was 25, and even then it was in the 14s at best.

I agree with the others, you're very fortunate to start off with a car like this. Your dad may not admit it, but since you hinted that he was a gearhead when he was your age.. he's VERY proud that you are too. I know I would be. I'd just be worried as hell that my kid was gonna go out and wrap around a tree with the street monster I funded.

everytime I pop the hood on my ta, its like a new surprise. I have JBA performance wires, some other things that look aftermarket, and I have this red wire that makes its way from one side of the engine to the other that has a clear plastic "area" that is about 2 inches long and it says "X scorpion" on it. then it has a Delphi a/c accumulator. None of these things will help with speed but Im sure they help things run a little smoother under the hood. At least my a/c is ice cold lol.

man I would rather sweat my *** off than run 16's lol. And no they aren't. I opened my hood up tonight to check the oil and I gave my engine a good look over and I noticed some aftermarket parts that I hadn't noticed before. But since we have come to the conclusion that it will be about 12.7 to 13.00, im a happy camper. I drove the car home yesterday and boy, is it quick. I cant wait for my headers, wheels, and radials.

We haven't decided yet. I wanted nittos but we hear they are kind of a low-end radial. Maybe mickey thompson ET street radial?

Nittos are skinnier than rated and are an awesome hooking normal street tire.

MT radial if you want full traction.

With the 325 or so RWHP you'll be making and considering you have 3.23 gears, you won't have too much tire spin to worry about. Whatever tires you have, heat them up and you should hook pretty good considering your suspension.

Nitto tires are GREAT tires. You'll hook good with them and they'll far outlast MT's.

Again dude, prepare for 13.4 times.

read your tale.......I was in the same boat started out 13.0 13.1 with drag radials added few things re tune, suspension 3.42s got a 12.6 now, just put a stall in feels a lot better awaiting a return to the track. check and see if you have an aluminum drive shaft as well I know my z28 came with a steel one that would help out a lil while you are in that area and reduce vibrations on the car.

See, im getting a great tune, tranny mount, and headers (good 50+ hp) with radials and I already have a panhard bar, lid, MAF, stock LS6 intake... sure the 3.23's aren't in my favor but I dont see how 12.7 isn't possible.

You wont have much wheel spin at the track, either will do fine there. MT is the route I would go if you do a lot of runs from a dig on the street.

You will run at least 13.4, plan on a low 13 to mid 13 and you won't be let down...12.9 or better and you will be ecstatic.

When I first started shaving tenths off I would over shoot my goals, most track visits weren't enjoyable for me.. Then when I added heads I decided I would be happy with a .1 and 1 mph increase.. When I picked up .3 and 3.5 mph without getting a retune and spinning my *** off with even a worse 60' than cam only. well, I had an awesome night at the strip!!
I have enough experience and knowledge now that I can more or less guess exactly what my car will run et and mph, so not much fun in guessing... But I do rub it in everyone's face when I'm right!

You won't gain 50 from exhaust.. More like 30 in an auto.

Possible? Sure, it can be done dead hooking with some awesome da. Likely? No.

I would NOT expect 12.8 or better. I personally would expect a 12.9-13.1. You have to remember, with it being as hot as it is right now nobody is running personal bests. Wait until late fall and you will see "new personal best tonight" and "new cam only record" threads popping up every day. Not so much in the summer time.

Remember, regardless of et...12.7 and 13.1 is less than 1/2 a car.... On the street that race could go either way every time you lined them up.

Dude, stop... It's not a huge deal. We could all be 100% wrong. Hell you might be at an awesome track and catch some -500 da and run solid mid12s all night.
Don't stress until you go... Expect 12.9-13.1 and have a good night.

Have you ever raced a car at the drag strip before?
