Coil Pack order
#5
TTT,
I didn't pay attention to the order of the packs when taking them off...is this going to be a problem (the car fired right up)....Are there exterior marking on the coil packs to differentiate them from one another? (at least i seperated the left from the right!)

I am confused by what you are asking. The coil packs are referred to as letters. When I had a bad coil pack it referred to it as coil pack E. The was on the number 5 cylinder.

as far as I can tell, he has em right
2/7 goes on #2, 1/8 goes on #1
btw, 2001SS#3013, he's talking about the sticker above each coil on the wires that says "2/7", "5/4", etc
i didnt know they had letters on em, imma have to check that out

ah ok, i read it wrong then, we're on the same page.
blackbooty..they are numbered is what we are saying. look on the wire by each coil pack, you will see a yellow tag on there that says the cylinder number that that pack belongs too, it'll say two numbers because the packs are universal, ex: 1/8..so that pack can eitehr go on cylinder 1 or 8..1 being drivers side front cylinder and 8 being passenger side rear. you just gotta make sure they packs are in the proper order on each side of the car.

I thought that you could interchange any coilpack with another one. What I meant by the letters is that the computer refers to the location of the coilpack by a letter. Cylinder 1 is A, cylinder 2 is B and so on.

Why would the coilpacks be different from one another? They all do the exact samething and have the same voltage or current or whatever it is so why would one need to go to one of 2 cylinders????

i was just scanning along when i came upon this.. Do the coil packs actually have to go back in order? I really couldn't find a straight answer. My car has been down for about a month and i had the coil packs laying on my garage floor in order then my buddy brought his mr2 turbo over to be worked on and with all the **** laying around they got mixed up. I just through them back on thinking there shouldnt be a difference..should there? if so this would mean uneven spark right? i havent started the car bc i have no fuel pump in it yet. Anybody confirm this going back in order is

yes they do need to go back on in order.
for example if you put the drivers side back together and put the harness on backwards..so instead of the first cylinder being 1/8 its 7/2 the car will hardly run and will backfire so bad you'll think you're at war in your garage. it won't get spark properly, car will sound like a carbed car with the timing all buggered up and unburned fuel will puddle in the intake.
They are universal left to right, hence the two cylinders listed for each pack, but they must be in the proper front to back order for the side of the motor that they are on..

The coil packs themselves don't need to be in any particular order, they are all the same.
The proper order is which plug you plug into a particular coil. #1 is driver front, #2 is pass front.
The coil pack sub-harness is interchangeable side to side, thus they are marked 1/8 2/7, etc.
So feel free to bolt them up wherever, just make sure you have the plugs in order.
