Question Best Manual Belt Tensioner?

I am tired of squeaky belts. A new belt does not squeak for about 2 to 4 weeks, then it squeaks. I am suspecting my tensioner spring may be loosing its force. Rather that get another, I want to step up to a manual tensioner. I need feed back from manual tensioner users. Which brand?

Here are a few I found:

Back when I bought mine, Katech was the only one in the game. That's what I've used for many, many years at this point, and I've been very happy with it. Don't plan on replacing it anytime soon either.

Don't expect it to permanently fix your belt squeaks.

If a new belt temporarily helps, then try this...take a soft wire brush and soap to all your pulleys. Check your idler pulleys for grooves. Run a soft nylon brush and soapy water across both sides of the belt. Rinse everything clean. I have actually had to replace all my pulley's before to get a squeak to go away. They just wear out, get corroded, etc and make noise.

I swapped out to a katech when mine started throwing belts, nice piece, and have had zero issues, hasnt lost tension either. Make sure none of your other pullys are your squeaky culprit, its not always the belt

A new spring tensioner is all you need. No need to go manual.

Have you tried using Goodyear Gatorback belts? I had a terrible squeal on mine after replacing the alternator. Replaced it with some Gates belts and started squealing in 2 days. Put the Goodyear belts on and hasn't squealed in a year.

I will have to order 1 from Summit. Not a single local store carries Goodyear products anywhere in the greater Tampa area that I can find.

I had to order mine online also. I think I got them from summit as well. I don't think any of the chain auto parts stores carry them.

Tarpon Springs. How about you?

I also just found a trick that silenced my current belt instantly. I am curious to see how long it lasts. It is one to two drops, and I mean just a drop or two, of No Touch tire dressing. The belt was instantly quiet and has stayed that way for two days. We shall see how long it lasts. I assume this is introducing some slip though. So, we shall see how it plays out. For now it is a life saver.

Land O Lakes. I work near you though, the Harley dealer on Hwy 54 in New Port Richey.

This is an old post, but in looking at manual tensioners I found it. Was curious if anyone has used this one?

I looks like the comp cams one. Thats what I have and it works very well. If you have a squeal, make sure all pulleys are aligned properly(esp power steering). Then put some valve grinding coumpound on both sides of the belt. This will help give it some grip.
