Default SS Muffler replacement

My car has the "345 hp" CME exhaust package from SLP and I like the way it sounds, but it's not quite loud enough. For right now, all I want to do is a direct muffler replacement. I have always liked magnaflow and that is probably what I will end up going with. My questions are:

1. what kind of muffler is on the car stock?
2. Will the magnaflow increase the sound by much?

I don't want it to be screaming loud, just a little louder and deeper if at all possible.

Also, if there are any other mufflers that you would recommend, please tell me. I have only ever used Magnaflow. My main concern is that it is a direct replacement for the original that way if I decide to get rid of the car it is an easy change back to stock.

on stock manifolds magnaflow probably wont do much. try searching for 12267 its supposed to be a direct replacement for your setup.

Thats what I figured. I really don't see the need of buying a new muffler if it'll sound the exact same. I'm still tossing around the idea of LT's, but im not sure yet.

Be sure on cme they will look and sound sick! and btw if you decided to go with long tubes you probably wont need to buy a catback or a muffler, your dual dual cme muffler can sound very nice with long tubes. a lot of people love how it sounds after long tubes.

That doesn't sound like a bad plan at all. I have heard great things about the BBK headers, I may give them a shot. I know they aren't stainless, but I have heard they have great fitment and I am considering lowering the car about 1.5 inches so fitment is a big deal.

If you want loud, then don't go with Magnaflow. I know I'll get reamed for this, but I ******* hate Magnaflow and the way it sounds. The sound, for me, is way too tame. I'd look into the Flowmaster 10 series muffler or something along the lines of a Dynomax Bullet.

I ran a Flowmaster 10 on my charger and it sounded good, but it was very loud. I'm looking more for deep, but with a noticeable increse in sound over stock. I also have thought about just welding LM2's into the mufflers place, but that defeats the purpose of a direct replacement. My two main concerns are:

1. Keeping the CME
2. Ease of reverting back to stock if I ever need to

Because the car is a LE I am trying debating on whether or not to keep everything close to stock with minor modifications or just say screw it and have fun with the car because it does have 60k miles and most likely won't ever be sold to a collector.

i would either go with a gmmg or hooker cat back, or do as someone stated on here and go with LT's which would wake up that exhaust quite nicely.

I would much rather just add the muffler because I want to keep the CME tips and the Cat-back costs too much to only use part of it. The LT's definitley seem like a good way to go though.

I just looked on the GMMG website and it seems like they only sell the full cat-back. How do Power Sticks sound in comparison?

Ive got magnaflow on my car and im waiting on my headers from tsp already have the uncatted y pipe and everything else but my headers were on back order. If you want i can quick take a vid of what the car sounds like just on a magnaflow. It's a 98 z28 that I have btw.

If it were my car I would keep the exhaust you have and invest the money into some longtubes like the bbk's and an electric cutout. That way you can control the volume of the exhaust anytime you want. The dual/dual CME setup is highly sought after and I would hang on to it if it were me. Plus it does sound good with headers.

I've never heard te cme muffler with lt's so I'll be googling that soon. I found the bbk headers and y pipe with a chrome finish for like $400 bucks. Normally I would be nervous, but all I have seen is good things about them. Are they worth a shot?

I have a GMMG CME setup on my automatic car with jet hot longtubes and a custom catted Y with the flowmaster merge. It sounds awesome. On my 6 speed car, I just put a low milage dual dual on it which is what your exhaust is basically, and otherwise it is stock. I agree with you that it is quiet. I recently made a thread asking about longtubes with a catted, or ORY and the majority of the posters stated that the ORY sounded the best. After listening to some sound clips, I tend to agree. The dual dual is one of the best flowing exhausts you can get. I would keep it and do a set of 1 7/8" ARH headers and an ORY and see how you like it then.

If you decide to go with the GMMG, I would purchase it through mad hammer directly. They are the ones that make the exhaust. Here are some photos of it on my car with the CME.

I dont think GMMG is still in business. Even if they were it would take forever to receive, many that ordered it took 2-3 months to get. Vengeance Racing sells it & its a direct fit to the CME. Its 304 stainless so it will never rust but its not cheap but it sounds great & plenty loud. As far as powersticks, couldnt tell ya, mufflers are similar but GMMG has a unique sound. To get a good idea of how it sounds you can click on the links at the GMMG site & check out http://ls1sounds.com/

Look at the muff size and position, there will always be mods depending on what you're looking to do. Anything and everything you do after stock is going to take $$ and/or more $$, space, time, more time for a reversal and time/$$$$.

Either let the Prestige go and mod it, or keep it as is and maintained as such for the "pure" resale value of a "pure" car.

67SS your car looks incredible, I love the exhaust. I'm going to spend some time on ls1sounds today. And Shadow I kind of have the attitude now that since the car does have 60k miles and it's a DD it is probably better to start modding now because no collector will want a 100,000 mile Camaro. They will be after the super low mileage cars. So I might as well just enjoy mine while I have it.
