its def not metal if am right..it sits over the O ring (from the intake side not the rail side) it keeps the rubber o ring in place.

EDIT: its the o ring retainer if am not mistaken...comn guys ill have this installed in the morning!

hmm i have no idea. i don't think it would be a good idea, but i'd try it without if i needed the car. it's not hard to pull the rail and you'll know as soon as you turn the key if it is leaking or not.

Those puppies are under quite a bit of pressure.
I wouldn't chance it.
From the pic, you've lost 25% of the thing anyway.
It will leak.

Honestly, for a temp thing, I'd run it. It doesn't alter the O-ring so no the injector will not leak. Downward pressure is what actually keeps the injectors in-place and sealed. I would however, source another injector and scrap that one at the first opportunity.

As said above as long as the o-ring seals it will not leak. That said if you can find another one (parts house, junkyard) i would def replace.

The bottom ring does not seal against the 59 pounds of pressure from the fuel pump anyway. That would be on the rail side of the injector. You just need that oring to seal against vacuum leaks and such. There is a lot less demand on the lower o-ring, and again, that retainer won't effect it, at least in the short term.
