I have the Spohn solid mounts in my car and I ABSOLUTELY hate them. Rattles, creaks, vibrations are so noticeable it isn't even funny. I couldn't imagine them in a cammed car. after 15,000+ miles on them, I am sick of them.
BUUUUTTTTT on the good side of things, they do what they are supposed to... My engine isn't going ANYWHERE. lol
p.s. Sorry for the thread highjack.

Not a thread hijack at all. People ask questions and that's good usage experience.
It's definately a love/hate relationship with solid MM's. I myself love them; the ability to "feel" the car more. Some people are about comfort. In the end, it's up to you.
Going to do some exhaust modifying next week when I get home, I'll post pics as well.

LOL, I still have the crush clamps on the shelf.... I had to buy the Accuseal 3"x3" band clamps. I went to a muffler shop for the last 3 and asked him to make me a deal on them, cash.
They DO have them at Advance and Pep Boys though. I believe 10.99 or 12.99 each.
Using the C clamp just wasn't an option for me.

I'm with you there, I don't care much for crush clamps because once you put them on they are a pita to get the pipes back apart. I like the accuseal claps that came with the Magnaflow catback I bought last summer. Matter of fact I may still have a few in the garage. I guess I'll be hitting up the parts store. Hopefully TSP will get these back in stock because I have some cash burning up my wallet and I'm inpatient, lol.

Well dr whigham, looks like I'll be doing the same install minus the solid mm's pretty soon. Since TSP just got more of their 1 7/8's in stock and I'm tired of looking at my rusty pacesetter's with the blocked off egr provisions, I just ordered a set. Thanks for sharing your install experience.

I have a question as to when doing the motor mounts became such a standard process with headers, I don't remember them being part of "the deal" a few years ago. Is it because these cars are older now? Is it an age or a mileage thing? I have an 01 with 28k miles on it, I don't want to bother with something that isn't broke you know?
#54
Both, you have to remember the newest of these cars is 10 years old and a lot are approaching or over 100K. Its more of a do it while you can deal. Same reason why most people do oil pumps with cams now.

Even if the car just sits, those rubber mounts and bushings get mushy and dry rotted.
With the headers in the way, it's just about impossible to get to the mounts, so people change them while the exhaust is out. Also, with the softer rubber mounts, the headers can hit the floor board under hard acceleration if the mounts aren't stiff enough and the headers are really close to the floor.

Exactly what sepsis and BlkVert said. Mileage isn't really the factor. The bottom line is you have a part on the car, made of rubber, that deteriorates over time, and if not done now, WILL need to be done regardless.
Reminds me of an old saying "Why is it we never have time to do it right, but always have time to do it again?"

Dr. whigam I wouldnt worry about your clearance at all. I have a header full exhaust setup with lowering springs. They kiss on drivethrus and driveways from a dead stop sidways creep, unless the slope is real wide. This my second f body, and im very familar with the clearance feel to where I can look at something and determine if I should angle and slow down more. I cant go over speed bumps at all. So when I return home, they are out! stock springs lol im all set. By the pics you have up, it looks the same as stock underneath for clearance because of your mounts. I Also admire your care for your undercarrige it looks very clean no rust!

It stays rust free due to a light coat of oil from a small leak somewhere, LOL.
What I see now, looking at the pics myself, is that I really need to flip the band clamps and have the bolts facing up.... Looks like *** as it is.
