i almost have enough money for an ls3 stroker build in my 2000 camaro, and the previious owner already installed the slp kit that was like 330 bucks.......is it worth buying a different kit thats better?

Depends on whether you have money more than time.
The stainless duct is mostly a heat getter. All that's left of
mine is about a 2" stub, with plastic pop-riveted to it and
routed to above the divider panel so it pulls cold instead of
hot air.
It's a mechanically nice piece that does a lousy job of, you
know, actually giving cold air. But could be a great foundation
for a roll-your-own ducting scheme of choice. Like, you're
twenty bucks and a trip to Home Depot away from a dryer-
vent-hose ducting scheme like have been shown here.

From just doing research on this a while back, it seems like the SLP kit is just a cold air kit with no direct routing into the airbox, while the FTRA kit feeds air straight up into the airbox. So, the better thing to do would probably be to just get some kind of lid and then do the FTRA mod or chris1313.

I agree with this, I've read this type of thing more than once.

I'd either buy this
http://fasttoys.net/shop/Fast-Toys-S...-98-02-LS1-V6/
or go to home depot and and buy some sheet metal and weather stripping and build my own.

Stock setup (slp airlid)
This is what happened, a buddy of mine has a 6spd z28, he would consistently run 12.6@116, for months he ran this same time. So we pulled the carpet, pass. seat, jack & spare, center console, took out front bumper, took A/C out but left evap box, added skinnies, and BFG DR's (275-50-15) and built our own CHRS1313 ram air set up (5 1/2" opening under filter).
His first run was a 12.1@118, then his 2nd run was 12.00@119.
So all .6 tenths and 3 mph wasn't just the ram air mod, it was the weight removal, dr's and skinnies and the ram air working together. Didn't mean for it to sound like it was just the ram air. sorry
