Default Exhaust questions?

With stock manifolds and cats would it hurt anything to just dump the exhaust at the end of the I? The previous owner hacked up the factory catback and I like no tips on a camaro anyway. Are there any negative effects?

It will be 3x louder, it gets very raspy when you get on it, kinda sounds like a truck.

There is no problem but you can put at least a muffler to put some music to it.

No negative effects at all, just gonna sound a little funny with the stock manifolds and cats. I agree, dumped on a camaro is the way to go, way better than having tips coming out the back, just doesn't look right

I'd go to a bullet-style muffler and agree on the dump. No problems but as others have mentioned, it won't sound great without a muffler.

Right?

Same set-up on mine right now, raspy would be the last thought in my mind when trying to describe the sound.

How much louder will it be than it being straight and going on out the back? I don't really plan to leave it this way just long enough to figure out if I'm going to keep the car. Where the I pipe joined with the over the axle pipe was somewhat crushed and rusted and I had to mangle it to get it apart. I figured I could cut the I at the end and weld a turn down on it and run it for a while to figure out what I'm going to do with the car. What about an old cheap glass pack at the end with a turndown?

No, it should be fine, will probably be a good bit louder and it may not sound that great, but I'm pretty sure it won't be anything too crazy since you still have the stock manifolds and cats.

At idle, and just cruising under 2k rpm it's mildly loud . Beside that and it's as loud as no muffler. That's with a Magnaflow #14419 (4" dia. 14" case length muffler). I'd go with 4" diameter, 18" case length muffler. One of the three I have listed bellow will work great!

Aluminized:
Magnaflow #18129, $45.
Dynomax #24219, $49.

Stainless Steel:
Dynomax#24248, $65.

Please report back and let us know. I'm sure you will either go back to a muffler, or go full exhaust.

When I was first modding my car I took the y pipe off and ran open manifolds with the cats on. It actually sounded pretty good to me. With just the y pipe on it sounded pretty bad. Much better with the y off.
