Default Installed my Headers/Y Pipe/Etc..

Hey guys,

Well....the mod bug bit me. Pretty sure it gave me some kind of disease, I believe it is called "LS1 POWER-itis"...

Anyways, after my Hooker Aerochamber cat-back the car sounds great. Just the sound I was looking for. Now, might as well finish the job. I'll put off the suspension for now, that'll be next...

So, here is the run-down.

-Texas Speed & Performance 1-7/8" Long Tube Headers
-Texas Speed Stainless Steel 3" Off-Road Y-pipe
-Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
-NGK TR55 Spark plugs (80k on the clock, might as well change them while I am there)
-Hypertech 160* Thermostat

-OEM Rubber Motor and Tranny Mounts (Might as well. I know many of you suggest poly or solid...I am going with OEM)

Anything I may have left out? (Aside from the Frost tune, which will be put on later).

Before I order, just want to know-- do I need 02 extensions, or will I be fine with what I have? Should I toss a cut-out in here, for that time when you just want to let her breathe?

Thanks,
Kenny D

You'll need O2 extensions, TSP should have an option to order them with the headers. I would suggest getting poly motor mounts and a rubber trans mount but that's just me. Since you're an 02 you don't have EGR so you won't need a delete plug so that should be it off the top of my head.

Thanks man. Will add that to the order.

Why is there so much negative feedback on stock rubber mounts? I understand they will wear down after maybe 5-10 years, but how is the install different from the poly? Any extra steps needed for the Poly mounts?

No no extra steps whatsoever. You just remove the clamshells, open them and remove the stock rubber, you'll probably have to heat it up quite a bit and force it out, then just pop in the poly. It takes some force to get them in. Replace the clamshell and reinstall. Lining up the holes can be a PITA though depending on how you remove them.

Poly is stiffer so it will help with clearance, there are other little advantages of it but that is a big one. Rubber will wear and tear and sag. If you don't replace motor mounts you may be giving up a little ground clearance and it will be annoying to have to to them later. And if you're going to do them then it's usually better to just to poly and not worry about it later.

Hmm....I won't be doing this job myself. My friend has a shop and is willing to do the whole job.

Can anybody else chime in, would I be making a mistake in replacing the stock rubbers with new OEM rubbers? (Not to discredit you or anything, LS-ONE_DAY) I have heard there are more vibrations with poly compared to replacing them with OEM. The fellow who is installing these said go for the rubbers, and I've been reading there's nothing wrong with having the OEM ones put back in (anything is better than 11 year old current ones)-- not going to have a 500+ hp beast here, this will be the last performance mod I really do...well...lol that's what we all say I guess

If I am wrong, correct me. Just trying to get all the parts together for my friend, drop the car off and pick it up a week later (Giving him lots of time, I see that these motor mounts are a PITA). Would like to do it once and be done with it, if you catch my drift.

If you're gonna change the mounts with stock rubber ones, you're in the same boat. You still have to open the clam shell and remove the old ones.

The stock rubber mounts have more flex and there will be more of a chance of your header hitting the floor board.

When my header hit the floor, it set off my knock sensor and the car ran like ****.

Also, with the extensions, there was recently a thread on how to switch up the pins and use the REAR O2 sensors to read as the front, eliminating the need for extensions.

Here's the threade Sepsis speaks of. Worked like a charm for me, and saved me some money.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...vette-o2s.html

Do yourself and your car a favor, and get the Prothane Poly Mounts. I went solid myself, and it's not bad at all to me. I'd imagine the poly's giving even LESS vibes. It only vibes when taking off in first anyways. That's it.

Yeah I saw the thread about that a few days ago, I will tell my buddy.

Alright guys, thanks for the replies. I know it's beating a dead horse with this thread, but just wanted to be sure. You've all been there before

If you are going to do it, might as well DO IT RIGHT!!!!!!! Plus, the Poly are cheaper than the OEM's I believe I saw them for 80 bucks a mount or something (the stock rubbers)

I will however, use a rubber tranny mount to balance things out--

Anything else recommended before I make this order? I am under the assumption that the stock wires are pretty damn good, so I guess I won't replace them-- just the plugs.

Re-Pin your cpm man! I had extensions and every time they got wet the car started missing so I went with Vette o2's and they were like 4ft to long and after 2 months threw a "slow response" code, so I repined my cpm for the rear o2 sockets to read the front o2's so now I'm using my stock o2's with no problems! Should have done it in the first place but just hearing "rewiring" is a scary word to me lol, but anyone can this.

Haha, right on Amarillo.

I see you also have Poly MM's-- what is your stand on them?

I don't have any issues with them, I love em, my exhaust has never hit the bottom of my car and I don't really have a bad vibration problem. And I meant PCM, my phone kept putting cpm lol

Friendly tip, and heed my advice-

It's not beer-thirty until you're done, or close to being done working on the car for the day. I've lost & misplaced more **** than I'd care to talk about doing this.

Like when i installed my FAST and started her up the first time.... Wife said, "Car sounds like ****!" and my reply, "Well yeah, it's gotta relearn idle....."

2 minutes later I remember to plug in the brake booster hose.

Go Prothane and NEVER look back. The poly vibes aren't bad at all. Seriously.

I tolerate Spohn solids no problem. Like I said, I wouldn't even know they were there in other gears or on the highway. It's just taking off in first that it vibes a bit, but you learn how to adjust your rpm and clutch "let off" and you don't even notice it anymore.

You'll be fine with the Prothanes.

Thanks.

Also...how about plug wires? 11 year old car, might as well? TSP has some GM Performance wires for only 60 bucks, figured might as well give it a tune up while its off.

Ive researched all the motor mount/trans mount theads I can find and finally went ahead and ordered Prothane Motor Mounts and OEM Rubber Trans mount. Seems to be the best combo for the least ammount of vibration. Will be installing this week so we'll see how it goes and maybe ill chime back in.

I would appreciate that. Let me know how it goes.

Any hey guys, sorry if I'm seeming to ask the same questions. I just want to make one order and be done with it. I guess the stock wires are good, but hey....they still are old. And for 60 bucks for GM Performance replacements, might as well IMO

I vote MSD's myself. Again, I'm not trying to make your car like mine, just sharing first hand experience..... I've had mine off and on probably 7 times and I've always used the die-electric grease- Never have I had an issue.

Aside from Granatelli's, at twice the price mind you, they also ohm the lowest.

I believe it's Nasty Performance that has a good deal on plugs with wires.
