Default 408 spec'd cam in a ls1

Whats the chances of this working? Im going to check it once i bolt the heads down but i would like to know what you guys think before hand. The cam came out of another 408 of mine but were going to use it on a stock cube ls1.

It is probably too big for a 5.7. What are the specs on the cam?

How did it feel in the 408? Was it a tame torquey street cam? If so it might work similarly to a super aggressive LS1 cam.

If it was an aggressive (large side) 408 cam, then it might not be that desirable.

Either way be prepared to check PTV and maybe install lower gears and spin it to the moon.

But for reference I have a 240/244 cam in a 347 with 4.10's and it drives good, people have used that same cam in 383's and 402's for a moderately aggressive street cam that makes good usable power.

On my car it's a bit peaky. That might be what your looking at in this case.

I would imagine a cam spec'd for a 408 would have alot of duration to get more air in...It could work for smaller cubes but would not be as efficient as a proper spec'd cam would. I wouldnt use it...even in a aggressive 346.

See if you can get a cam card from comp or who ever ground it and sell it.

IIRC, Texas Speed has a machine that can give you all the information you would ever want about a cam.
