Default 85mm z06 maf question

I have a 99 trans am and my maf is starting to fail me. I currently have a stock maf, slp lid, 92mm fast intake, a 242/256 110lsa cam w/ .625, .615 lift, 1 3/4 pacesetter longtubes, 3in offroad pipe into dumps. I still have factory 853 heads and I will be installing the 243s pretty soon. I was wondering if the upgrade to an 85mm z06 maf is going to be worth doing or am i going to be wasting my money over buying a factory one. I've done some research about the slp maf and I've herd a lot of bad things about it and its resistor. So I've concluded that if I replace it with a "after market" it will be the z06 maf from the ws6store. Does anybody have any input on if its going to be worth the purchase or if its going to help at all? Thanks for any help!

Not much input besides my SLP MAF causing some tuning issues. My tuner hates the SLP units, I'll be switching to a Z06 unit myself.

Go with the 85mm truck maf, you can get them for less $. I bought a brand new one for $40 off ebay. Just be carfull and don't buy a look alike. Also, I had seen in a thread Tick performance claims 5-7hp over the stock unit.

I have a 85MM truck MAF too. The only difference is the lack of the screen on the Z06. I bought mine from Rock-auto. A brand new one for $40...I would be little skeptical. They are about $100 new.

I wouldn't plunge for the 85mm unless you need a MAF anyways. Don't forget its not a "bolt-in" part. You need the adapter harness or re-pin your IAT/MAF to the right connector.

Don't fool with a MAF, just run SD. Cheaper and simpler.

Speed Density will require a dyno tune...No mail order there.

Are SD tunes any good for street driven applications? My is rarely driven but I am considering switching my SLP MAF for a truck MAF, I'd rather get rid of it completely if I could.

Speed density makes you depend on accuracies that
you would normally get a "pass" on - like IAT is now
a direct factor in air mass, full time. Yet you know it's
whacked at least sometimes.

I've been running a descreened truck MAF for many
years now, no prob. I use the Z06 table.

Your SLP MAF becomes the truck MAF it started
life as, if you remove the resistor. But then you have
to change the MAF table.

Ah ok..well if I don't go with the sd Tune will I still need to have my iat sensor? Or will the new maf be able to do it for me?

The in-MAF IAT of the Delphi 85mm works the same
as the F-body standalone IAT. I've had, variously, a
5-3 wire adaptor and the stock IAT, a 5 - 3+2 adaptor
using the in-MAF IAT and stock harness, and then just
hard soldered a 5-wire pigtail, and then relocated the
IAT outside as all of the in-engine-bay schemes still
heat-soaked it making for hard hot starts.

I recommend you just jump to the last step personally.
