A 4 cam 4.6L with LT's ORX and Borla Stingers does sound pretty damn sweet! However, a LT's ORY and a GMMG catback on an LS1 car sounds a lot better

An LT5 swap sounds expensive

If you want/like the hollow Mustang sound, buying one is the best advice.

I agree with some other posters here, I like the LTs, ORY, GMMG sound better (my old exhaust now on my friend's '02 TA), and especially like the Kooks stepped LTs, OR-X pipe, and TDs now on my car. Best sound from a 4th gen car w/full exhaust I have heard (pricey though).

IMO the Mustang always had a better overall tone and sound in general, but a properly set up LS1 always sounded meaner and more raw if that makes sense

As others have already stated, the exhaust note a 32v makes is going to sound nothing like your LSx and there isn't anything you can do to make it. Well, unless you do a 32v engine swap, like SlowBurn already said.

Firing order on the 4.6L mod motor, roller 5.0 SBF, 351W Ford, and LSx, are all exactly the same. The cylinder numbers are different, but the order in which each cylinder location fires are exactly the same.

To get a Mustang sound you need a Mustang exhaust. Tubing length, tubing diameter, muffler type and location, and tailpipe length behind the mufflers. Shorty headers are the other big driver of Mustang sound. Long tubes on a Mustang changes the sound pretty significantly.

Drop an LS engine in a Mustang with a Mustang exhaust behind it, and guess what, it sounds like a Mustang.

An off road y pipe with long tube headers sounds more aggressive than any 4.6. Way louder too. Sometime I have to shout to my passenger when driving

This post is spot on. My neighbor had an 04 GT with a Flowmaster catback and an X-pipe, and it sounded absolutely mint. Nice and deep with a bit of mid-range thanks to the X-pipe, damn near perfect for a street car really. I was always jealous of how it sounded compared to my car and it pisses me off to no end that GM decided to not engineer the F-body to use a true dual exhaust.

On that note, I think this is as close to a Mustang sound you're gonna get. I think this sounds fuggin fantastic as well:

Nope.... FORD designs their engines (heads especially) to get that signature sound. Read a really good article on it..... Wonder if I can find that article??

Uhh no, it will sound like an LS engine with a flowmaster.

That's like saying drop an LS engine in a Ferarri and boom that car will sound like a Ferarri V12.

Mean LS1 true dual exhaust - YouTube
I totally can relate to what you are saying, and agree that LS1 sounds very clean and more similar to a Mustang. I had long tubes, h-pipe, and Borla Stingers on my 04 gt and I do miss that sweet sound for sure lol

Love the sound of stangs. Honestly, i been looking at some mustangs as a daily driver for the exhaust.

Wife and I decided to buy a Kona blue 11 5.0 with a stick a couple of years ago. The exhaust was a huge seller of the car to me. It sounded great stock and I did a magnaflow full catback wo rear resonators and the car sounds nothing short of sick Nothing beats the mustang note or a 93-97 LT1 exhaust note. GM just flat missed the boat on the LS "sound" I'm a gm guy through and through but wavering these day's.
