I received my set today. THEY. LOOK. NICE.

I'm hoping they'll mate up with the catted Y-pipe with FM merge I have for the 1-3/4 LPP headers I'm not gonna be using.

OK folks, I need a catted Y-pipe for these 1-7/8 inch Speed Engineering headers for my 1999 Firebird. I'm hoping somebody makes it with the Flowmaster merge.

Ideas?

Both Speed Engineering and TSP's merge is have proven to be nearly as good as if not as good as the FM merge. You could either just buy TSP's catted y pipe, or what I would do is buy either of the ORY's and put Magnaflow high flow spun metallic cat's in it myself. It would be extra work but at least you would know the quality of the cats that were used.

Just ordered a set of Race headers and Y from the ebay store. Cost a bit more to get to Canada, but still a smoking deal! Can't wait to try them out.

I have a question folks:

The Speed engineering stainless off road Y-pipe has what looks to be a stepped outlet. What size is this outlet? Can it be cut at the step if the larger size is wanted? What is this larger size?

I would expect its 3.5 inches just like TSP's is. I'd like to build a custom 3.5 inch "PowerFlow DynoMouth" exhaust someday with a 3.5 inch bullet in the I pipe and a 3 inch mini bullet before each exhaust tip.

So uncut it's 3 inches, cut it's 3-1/2 inches?

Are the clamps that come with it (pictured with the Y-pipe) also stainless?

Thank you for pointing that out (and yes, us moderators have thousands of threads to keep tabs on as well as our own personal little endeavors). Now, do you know about the two outlet sizes or should we just wait until one of the good people from Speed Engineering see this and step in with the answer?

Just busting your ball no insult meant. I guess I'm just assuming (I know may be ***uming things) its the same as TSP's sense the 2 y pipes are pretty much identical and TSP's sizes are already known.

No insult taken, I was working off my cellphone and didn't go back to the SE page. And us moderators are very busy beavers watching all you scrubs

You are correct, the TSP and SE Y-pipes are no doubt the identical item from the same maker. They also don't mention the two outlet sizes.

I actually need a catted Y-pipe and the TSP version caught my eye. BUT the cats don't look much larger than the pipe itself so I'd imagine the Magnaflow spun cats you suggested are waaayyy better.

Plus the ORY and the two cats total the same cost as the TSP version with the*whatever* cats.

And the four more joints in the piping will allow me to precisely tweak the piping to where I want it on the vehicle.

tyler02z28: Thank you for your order..

Paul Bell: Yes, our Y-Pipes are 3", and then merge down to 2 3/4" in order to connect to the factory Cat-Back. I am not sure of the exact size of the collection point. I will measure on Monday for you.

I am 99% sure the TSP catted Y-Pipe will work just fine. Probably be the cleanest, and most affordable way to go.

Thanks
Sean

Measurements at the end of the Y-Pipe are:

Stepped connection to factory Cat-Back: 2.700"
Tubing size prior to the step-down: 3.150"

The further you go up the Y-Pipe the bigger the dia. but there is about a 2" section of pipe that all measures 3.150"

Thanks
Sean

Thanks Sean!

To keep it "all in the family", I'd go with your Y-pipe and then do the cat mod suggested by Fry and detailed above.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but you do not "need" a catted Y. Note where I live and tell me if something is different down in your neighborhood.

And you are doing all of that motor work only to choke it with cats and a single exhaust? it just isnt right. Single exhausts are for Hondas. I know it's what these cars came with, but I just cant get over it.

In NYS, vehicles 25 years and newer need to have in place and operational all emissions components.

The Magnaflow spun body cats are high flow and present almost not restriction to the exhaust flow. Do doubt the smaller cats included in the TSP catted Y-pipe are not high flow.

I'd like to be legal. As this is not a track car and will be driven (once it's back together and registered) I'll run with cats.

I understand the laws, that's why need was in quotation marks. Don't wanna deviate from the main topics here, so I'll be quiet. For now...
