if you have means to do so, not a bad idea to check ANY header or manifold flange for straightness. I own an 18" wet stone I used for guitar neck fret flattening that would be great for this use. A scrap of thick countertop granite with stick on sandpaper makes a great straightening tool. Granite fabricators generally have scraps.
Any large lumps on inside or spatter can be cleaned up with double carbide burr bits easily. If you're just removing large protrusions, you shouldn,t be weakening anything.


PS, no one ever commented on a question I asked::::: Is there any proven way to keep some shine on stainless headers in use???
Thanks for the info! I figured these issues would be easy to fix, I'll just have to get that double carbide burr bit. I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before I get these installed.

Unwrapped em a couple hours ago. They look good. Looks like the flange was cleaned up with a cookie maybe. No splatter. The welds seem pretty good as well. I might kiss a couple of them before installing, but all in all these are nice headers. Looove the fact that they have no air, egr nonsense. They are sexy. And for the price? OMG. I'll post my own pics this weekend. Thanks guys.

Glad to hear, ya we have been looking at every set that goes out the door now. Anything at all that catches our eye we make sure to touch up. Still haven't seen any other weld splatter though.

Got mine yesterday. Everything looks good. I've still got some misc parts to gather, so I'm planning on installing in early spring. Everyone who has seen them thought I paid around 500 for them. Kudos on a quality piece.

But after all the discussion you, I and a few other guys had earlier this year....on one thread I started myself that ultimately led me here as well as the "other" Speed Engineering header thread... So it looks like the OD varies a a bit. I checked em all over, most measurements were a little bigger than 1.75, some were slightly under. Nothing I am concerned with. Again, very happy. Just wanted to throw these up for a couple of nerds like me who want and need actual measurements.

Our next batch which is already on order will have them on the outside of the tube. It was one of the revisions we had adjusted. It bothered us too.

I'll still be a little while before getting to new headers. Was looking at merge spikes, such as stainless works makes. Have tig, I could cut the end of collectors off, weld in & reweld collector. Was wondering if this little detail could actually add a few hp.

This is all they need to make them the "perfect" economy header, they are still very nicely built. I like that they are changing the o2 depth and getting that obstruction out of the flow path as much as possible.

Yes, they are already ordered. Were trying to hit the OBX header market, so unfortunately every additional thing we do will ultimately increase the price of the header which we're trying not to do. The OBX headers are so cheap it makes it difficult to compete as it is.

I personally wouldn't mind paying like$300 or so as opposed to a little over $200 for a better product being sold through a known someone on a forum getting feedback from customers. China stuff can be pretty decent if specified properly. I think others wouldn't mind paying a little more than the unknowns if they know it's a better product.
Still beats paying $500 to over 1,000. Just my .02 cents.
