Why would they? Dorman isn't exactly a performance parts company, as long as the part fits, doesn't cause driveability problems, or turn on your SES light they're going to call it good enough. Our best hope for this intake is that the cheapest way for them to make it was to more or less copy a fast 78. Now if we're really lucky they'll make a LS2 replacement that is cheap copy of a FAST 90.

it a performance part right? or at least thats what its supposed to do i assume?

im sure someone interested in it would like to know how much power its supposed to add with other proven options out here already.

so far i havent been convinced its a better alternative.

I would like to know. I do not plan on buying this intake unless it is tested first.

No it's a replacement/ repair part. Dorman is a replacement part company, not a performance part company. We just have to hope they did a good enough job making it that its as good or better than a LS6. I'm not saying it wouldn't be smart for then to test it and advertise any gains I just wouldn't expect them to do it. It's obvious parts of it are copied from a FAST 78, so how good this intake is will depend on how much of it was copied and how well it's made.

It's hard to say. If they also used the runners from the FAST 78/90 intake the lid/top looks close enough that it would have about the same plenum volume. That would make it a low cost copy of the old Fast 78, sure you can't easily open it to port it but for ~$325 to your door it's a way better deal than a used $350 LS6 that might need new gaskets, and if USPS crushes it getting a free replacement from RockAuto will be easier than getting one from some dude on Ebay or from the classifieds.

Hopefully we aren't getting excited over something that turns out to be a turd. I emailed Dorman asking about any dyno testing that may have been done when developing the manifold, and asked about any other details including if any other parts from the FAST 78 intake were used. I don't know if they'll respond with anything useful but we can hope.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Dorman buys most of what they sell from other manufacturers and suppliers. I do know that this is common practice in the auto industry.
If this is the case then they probably don't have that information, They only care if it meets factory replacement specifications.

For all we know it's a FAST bottom, ls1 runners, and a top I can't even begin to... Whatever.

Hopefully they just bought the old mold from Comp/FAST and used it, but you never know.

As far as LS6 intakes price dropping, good luck. There's still a LOT of people that like the stock factory look. This intake isn't even in that category. Performance guys won't care, but that's even if this thing flows like an LS6 and not an LS1... Just bc its a "replacement" part doesn't mean it's made the same. Sure it'll work, as someone alluded to earlier, but for all you know you're buying a manifold the on par with the regular LS1

I see it... Wow.

U.S. Patent No. 7021263 B1

I think I'll just be calling Comp themselves tomorrow.

This is either going to end with good news, or a lawsuit

Just got off the horn with Comp (FAST)

Comp never "made" the LS 78/90 intakes. That was Wilson. Wilson had / has the molds. They very well may BE making these for Dorman.

Time to call Wilson Manifolds...

Oh, and they're "working" on an LSXRT for the LS3/L92 square ports...

Wilson tells me they NEVER had anything to do with the 78/90 and they only make the 92. The guy on the phone though looked at the pics on summit and is just as curious as I am now.

This is getting weird...
