Default SLP Lid fitment tips

I just bought a SLP lid for my 99 camaro ss. And I have read on a few sites that there are fitment issues with the lid. Some say the clips come loose and the hood rubs on the lid. Can you guys give me any info on how to avoid those problems? Really don't want them to come into effect when I put it on. Thanks!

I've had two and haven't had any of those problems. The biggest issue is getting it on the MAF. It's a wicked tight fit. Heating it up and (carefully) using a little lubricant will do the trick.

Ah alright. And was it a pain to get the lid onto the car? Any other challenges besides getting the MAF to fit? Thanks.

You have to be careful getting the IAT sensor out of the stock lid and installing it in the new one. But the biggest pain is getting in on the MAF. Other than that, no issues.

Alright. And how long do you think it took to install it?

45 minutes or so - and most of that time was spent fooling with getting the lid on the MAF.

Use a blow dryer and get the lid opening hot and slide the MAF in.. Don't try and muscle it in, do yourself a favor

Yeah, I can honestly say it was a pain to get the maf into the opening.

I went in dry, totally thought something was wrong, but just forced it in anyway. Took me quite a bit of time doing this.

I had the aftermarket SLP lid on my car before and it fit ok, but the MAF was a bitch to remove.

I have since switched to a Blackwing lid and it fits even better..

Damn, that's what I wanted to avoid. But some people have posted info on how to avoid the rubbing. Hopefully they are right.

Mine rubbed with an OE SS hood, no rub with the Sunoco.

Co-workers 2001 ws6 vert has rubbed the paint off the bottom of the hood... We think its the aftermarket bellows that puts pressure against the lid and doesnt allow it to sit correctly. The bellows will not allow the lid to fully seat inside the tabs.

Well I still have stock bellows on my car. Think that will help?

yes, no need for the smooth bellows..

It does nothing performance wise and doesn't let the lid sit flush since it raises the back of it..

Plus with the stock bellow you can actually change the air filter easily..
