Default New oil pan missing bolt hole or new normal?

I just ordered a new fbody oil pan and it appears to be missing a hole. Is there some reason its not drilled...or did they just miss it? I didnt want to drill it if there was some reason they stopped doing that one. Here is a pic:

I'm guessing here, but I say they missed it or it was a manufacturing flaw. That's a long run of gasket without a bolt to clamp it down. I bet it pours oil if you were to install as is.

Good luck with the resolution.

Well its good to know it doesn't seem to be needed. Now I don't know if I should drill it out or not.

Well, like I said, the one I removed was just like it and it came from the factory that way. No leaks on that side..

Is there a threaded hole on the block in that spot?

There is, which is why I was wondering if it was normal for that hole to not be drilled out. I should mention, I'm putting this pan on an ls2, not an ls1, so maybe there isnt a hole in that spot on the block on the ls1.

the ls1 OG pans have the hole drilled out..

I would drill it out, it would bother me. Plus I hate leaks with a passion

If there is a hole in the block in that area I would drill it out.

There must have been a change somewhere because my 2002 ws6 has a hole in the block but no hole in the original pan I took off. The new pan is the exact same way. The oil leak that I had was not from that portion of the gasket though. Interesting.

was the gasket riveted to the pan when you removed it?

My 1999 motor did NOT have the hole in the block OR the oil pan. The gaskets always have the hole.

The Moroso oil pan I'm using has the hole so I drilled & tapped the block to use it.

If your block has the hole and the new pan doesn't, I would drill the pan.

That makes total sense now. They need to make the pan to the lowest common denominator. Im definitely going to drill it since I have the hole in the block. Thanks.
