Default my exhaust sucks

I just installed my engine and trans a few weeks ago and realized that the exhaust i have sucks. the engine has a 228r cam and a 4500 stall. The headers are pacesetter 1 3/4 longtubes, pacesetter y pipe (garbage!) going to a lm2 cat back. Extrememly loud and raspy.

Here are some options, but looking for some opinions.

1. make new y pipe with flowmaster merge and replace the lm2 resonator with a borla xr1 muffler.

2. make new y pipe with flowmaster merge and leave the lm2 resonator, but install mufflers directly behind the tips (single chamber flowmasters or some bullet mufflers. ( I can get 2 flowmaster 10 knockoffs for $50)

3. Scrap the lm2 and start over completely with a different catback..

I want to build the exhaust somewhat cheaply, i will be going turbo soon and will be redoing the exhaust again anyway.. Thanks

I had that exact same setup but with the LM1...talk about raspy lol. Had a FM merge and a MagnaFlow 14419 put in and it's sooo much better

I had a Flowmaster 80, bought the car with it already.

Changed it to a GMMG/Madhammer catback, absolutely love it a hell of a lot more!

Sounds like manifolds to me. GMMG is a little raspier, maybe a little louder, those are the only differences I can tell from the vids. But my buddy's FM was louder (and deeper) than my GMMG when we were both lid/catback on manifolds.

If you want to get rid of raspy, don't mess around with the y-pipe and go true duals.

Your car sounds great, but dumped is going to be too loud for someone concerned about rasp and drone. I'm buying the new Hooker Blackheart dual exhaust as soon as the 50 state version is released.

I started to build my own y pipe with the flowmaster merge. I'm using a borla muffler. I'll post finished pics tomorrow. I'm using a flux core welder so the welds won't be pretty.

I took some comparison pics of the ypipe I have now. Extremely restrictive.

I finished the exhaust and just took it for a drive. I noticed instantly that it had alot more bass at idle. I noticed a difference at WOT with the less restrictive ypipe. All in all it was rewarding building the ypipe and swapping the lm2 bullet for the borla. The sound is much nicer!

I bought my car with a loudmouth and to me it sounds like an import garbage can (just an opinion), swapped in a classic chambered powerstick which was a tiny bit better but basically the same tone. I just bought the Jegs catback with a real muffler not a resonator or bullet so it will be a major improvement.
