Default Help figuring out which motor I have

Hey guys how would I tell if I have a 5.3 in my camaro or a 5.7? Bought the car used did a full tune up and it's not as fast as some of my friends camaros. Mines a bone stock 98 ss 6 speed. Did a full tune up still doesn't pulley that hard. Got beat by a 350z hr swapped lol.

First off, is the block cast iron? Check with magnet. The heads will be aluminum. .4L displacement difference is not that huge.

Casting number is on the rear of the block, drivers side, just below the head. I would just try with a magnet lol.

How many miles are on the car/motor?

So I did the magnet test and it didn't stick to the block. So its a 5.7. The car has 141k miles. I've flushed the coolant, changed the spark plugs and wires. I've also cleaned the maf. I've read a lot about these cars pulling really hard, but it mine doesn't seem to pull as hard as people claim it should. It won't break loose when i stomp on in first from 4k rpms. When I sit in my cousins 350z swapped with an hr it pull much, much harder then my car and his car is all stock besides the swap. This doesn't bother me, but I just want to make sure my car is running optimally before I start throwing parts on it. Could mine just be slower since mine is a convertible? Would changing the fuel filter do any good?

"bone stock" 20 year old cars arent that fast. If you're getting beat its time for some real mods.

Best thing to do if you just got it, is to do a tune up and replace plugs, filters, oil etc etc. Get it scanned for codes and make sure everything is running ok if you are worried about pre existing issues. It could be your car has 2.73's for a rear gear which doesn't make them a burn out monster to begin with. If it is a true SS it will have 3.23's but doesn't mean someone didnt swap the read end.

I pretty much did a full tune up besides a fuel filter. If it isn't throwing any codes would it still be a good idea to scan it for codes? It doesn't seem to pull any harder up top either. I was pretty surprised the 10 bolt wasn't making any noise when I bought it and the car has a 140k on it so maybe it is swapped. Does that mean it won't be that responsive to mods then?

In for an answer and suggestions.

my car was swapped from convertible v6/a4 to 2002 ls1/a4 and original v8 rear.

i got the donor from a friend but never drove his car before it was totaled so I can't really compare being a passenger vs. having the drivetrain in my car.

Swap was done 5 years ago, Car now has 71k miles with long tubes and duals with no cats or emissions.

Alwasys wondered if it's the butt dyno that makes it feel slow.
Is the extra 100lbs being a convertible making it actually slow?

Does it just needs gears to wake it up?

Or if someone swapped motors and gave me a tired pos time of swap.
