Default How to fix the rasp.

I'm sure there are posts on this but I'm not finding much with a similar setup. I bought my 00 a4 TA about 6 months ago, it has headers into a y and then into a borla catback. No cats. Sounds awesome on start up and WOT. But with normal acceleration it has a ton of rasp at certain rpms.

the research I have done says it's because of the Y. Trying to figure out the best way to fix it. Should I switch to true duals? I don't want it much louder than it is, so I think I would rather keep the Borla, what other options do you guys recommend?

What headers and y-pipe is it? Also what Borla muffler do you have?

Put a glasspack ("bullet muffler") in the pipe just before the axle. Should cut the rasp by a bunch.

im not sure what the headers and y pipe are I am not able to find any markings, are there different borla mufflers? It looks like it is just the full cat back system.

Pretty sure there are a few different Borla mufflers. Reason I ask about the y-pipe is because if it has a crappy merge then that alone will cause a lot of rasp. Ask me how I know lol

What 👆 said. I had a bunch of rasp with my Mac mids and Flowmaster cat back. I added a bullet muffler and it really toned it down.
I have since changed my whole exhaust and went with Speed Engineering Lt's, their ORY and a TSP cat back. It has zero rasp and sounds awesome.

Hmm ok, I don't really want to quite it down, would adding the glass pack do that? Maybe I should look at a quality y pipe?

Ill give you mine as an example. The merge on my Pacesetter ORY was horrible, so I had a Flowmaster merge welded in and it made a huge difference in rasp. Didn't quite It down tons, but just smoothed out the tone. It even picked up some power as well

ok maybe that's where I should start. Do you guys think just switching to the full dual system from Texas speed would make it way louder or do anything to power? I like the sound now minus the rasp.

If you like what you have, and just want to get rid of some of the rasp, then there's no need to spend all that money on a true dual setup

Yeah I get that, just thinking I could sell the borla to offset some of the cost of the true duals, if it were too add some power

After reading all the above, I would get rid of the merge you have and weld in a Flowmaster one. Most of the merges I have seen could be a lot better, and Flowmaster has the best ones IMHO. Try that, as it won't cost too much, and you should gain some power besides.

I added a powerstick from classic chambered and ALL rasp is gone. Cheap too. Fits in the i-pipe location.

I had rasp until I went from 2.73's to 3.42's (less load on the engine) which helped some, but really went away with the installation of my stalled TC. Now it goes through the RPM where it used to rasp so quickly it's not even noticeable.

I used 3020sb (21") on my red TA and 3030sb (31") on my silver TA.

The 31" is on a system with the SLP loudmouth; I just used the powerstick instead of the resonator from SLP.

The 21" is on a traditional system where it is in the i-pipe and goes to a hooker catback
