Ls1 header install, rattle noise
First post on this site, but this noise has been bugging the crap out of me. Ive had 1-7/8 LT headers and 3 inch off road y installed a little while now on my 2000 ss. They sound great when the rpms are right, although right when accelerating especially up to highway speeds there is a ridiculously loud rattle type noise. It happens between 2-2500 rpm under load, it wont do it while in neutral. Ive checked to see of maybe if the heat shield was touching but couldnt see anything. Im going to replace the 02 sensors since they were rattling a bit, but i cant for the life of me figure out what this very loud noise is. I describe it as a tinny rattle noise or tick, more of a rattle though. Anyone else experience this before or solve it? thanks!

Look for anything that would be in the way in the direction the engine torques over to. It has to be hitting something.

How old are the engine mounts? If they aren't pretty fresh it might be that when the engine torques/rotates a little under acceleration something is rolling over and hitting something. Lots of header and exhaust fitment/noise issues are from worn mounts. There's a couple ways to check them, if they aren't fairly new do not assume they are good, this bites a lot of people.
A sound clip would be helpful too.
Also, are you sure it isn't an exhaust leak? Exhaust leaks can sound like lifter tick etc and some people describe the noise differently.

sorry been busy with college, but i have not changed engine mounts since owning the car. Also at some point soon i will have it tuned. i can try and get a sound clip although i think id have to link it to youtube or something since this site doesnt allow for very long video clips. Dont think its an exhaust leak, going to try and get it checked out a bit more over winter break on a lift.

Even if the mounts are good, a header a little too close to something will vibrate against it and rattle enough to drive you nuts.
