Default Recommendation for heads under $2k

Looking for head recommendations for under $2k. Truck is a 69 C10 shortbed w/4L80 and 6.0 with a torquer V2 cam (232/234 .600/.600). This will be for a cruiser that sees the track a couple time a year. Thanks.

FOR UNDER 2K YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF HAVING YOUR HEADS PORTED FOR MAX FLOW AT THE .200 TO .500 RANGE SINCE ITS A STREET CAR. HIGHER FLOW AT LOWER LIFTS = BETTER HEAD. DONT WORRY ABOUT MAX FLOW AT .600 FOR A STREET CAR.

Is the base AFR mongoose a lot better head than a ported stocker. I’d spend a couple hundred more for a better head.

Afr heads are some of the best... There are better but you will pay big $$$$ for them.

Call frankensteined heads first before you spend any money, they know there stuff and will tell you whats best.

I bet they can port your heads for 1/2 the cost of buying heads and will flow great.

My Advanced Induction 226cc 243's have given me excellent results. TEA should be mentioned as well.

What intake you running? I hope it's the trailblazer SS intake that outperforms some aftermarket intakes.

Call Brian Tooley for some TFS 220 as cast heads. You can get them for under your budget. I seen them make 450 rwhp on a ls1 threw a stall eith a basic 228R cam.

Curious.......what flow numbers are you trying to reach with new heads?

not really looking for a number specifically, just a good head. The trick flows are looking pretty good right now.

^^^^ Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words.

With that said the trick flow are definitely sweet.

TEA does deserve mention as one of the outstanding porters of quality heads. Their ported LS6/243/799 are an excellent. Durability TEA heads are excellent, I ran a set for ~135,000 miles with no real issues.

AI & Frankenstein are are so excellent and prime contenders.

Some porters go too high into the roof of the port and long term the head cracks. The ones I've seen were stock castings. The GMPP ported 243 heads I use in my intake flow testing are thin in the port roof for example and prone to crack in some cases.

Those Wegner ported 243 are really hogged out. Most of the other 243 porters have more conservative cc in the range of 225.

Lots of great options here! If you don't mind stretching the budget a bit more, we sell the TEA 220cc As Cast Trickflows loaded on our site starting at $2,100 shipped and work GREAT on our builds here in house for a budget setup! That aside it's hard to beat a good ported 243 head, but the Trickflows will shine a bit further with some nice added features like valve angle, rocker to valve cover clearance, etc. Give us a call or shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions on these or if I can help you further.

Trick flow as cast 220 all day.

There are several good port programs too. The more I hear about frankenstein the more I like.

But from what I've seen and done, for a little under 2k I'd be on the TF as cast 220

Stay cathedral port for the 6.0 that ls3 stuff doesn't shine here.

I personally would buy ported 243s from Ai, Frankenstein, or TEA. Wcch is kinda pricey.

Frankenstein usually has them in stock.
