Default Hole in oil pan?

Not really sure where I should post this.

When I was taking this engine apart,I found some metal in the oil. Nothing in the engine was broken. I found this when I had the oil pan cleaned. Is that hole supposed to be there?
No oil leaked anywhere.

The one for the oil filter? If that's the one you are talking about then yes it's supposed to be there. Dirty oil flows through that hole into the filter then goes back out of the filter in the center hole.

Look at the bottom pic. The hole at the 9 o'clock position is what I'm concerned with. It looks like it's half drilled for a reason, but then if you look at the right side of that hole another piece of missing. When I looked at it, it looked like the same material that I found in the oil.

Number 1? 2? 3? I don't see anything wrong in the picture myself.

You're not talking about the rivet on the right side of #1 that used to hold the original gasket in place are you?

I think he means #2 in his pic, the hole at 9 o'clock position within the filter. (it's supposed to be there, as you said)

That's the hole I'm talking about.
When I looked at it, it looks like more of that material from around that hole has broken away. I saw in another thread last night that this hole is supposed to be there, but if you look at the shape, on the right side of that hole, it looks like a piece of that side broke off.
Like it was supposed to be a half circle.

I found a couple small pieces of metal in the oil. And they really really look like they'd come from this circle opening up a little.

The material is not likely from that hole. Like I said earlier, The hole is where dirty oil enters the filter, The hole is offset and they don't bother to clean it up, Although it looks thin it's actually pretty thick material, If anything broke off it would have been trapped in the filter.

I just asked the same question during my motor swap. It is normal, the truck pan has the same hold drilled in that fashion.

When I got it back from the machine shop I got a better look at it and it is pretty thick. I kinda smoothed the edges out little.
