Default Pilot bushing chewed up during install HELP!!!

I was installing my pilot bushing today in my lq9 for my t56 magnum. I used the socket method and must of had bad aim since I chewed up the top lip of the bushings pretty good. Do you think this is still fine to use or should I get a new one. I’ll leave some pics below

It looks to me that the wear surface for the shaft "nose" looks unaffected.
The outside surface does look gnarly, but I wonder if that even affects how it will function.
I have a feeling you might be OK here.

Yeah, there really wasn't anything wrong with the old one. Would have worked just fine. That surface doesn't actually do anything.

Only way I know of to keep that from happening, is to be more careful about installing the transmission. Specifically, make sure the trans goes in straight and level, so that the clutch gear is pointed straight into the bushing. Try using longer bolts to support it at a greater distance from the BH, so you can slide it in easily by hand.

I also notice there's no grease in it. Not good. Grease it up good. Pack it, but not so much that the welch plug gets driven out when the tip of the clutch gear goes in.

Dude I would replace it now. Try using either a bigger socket or wood drift

For installation of the bushing I use about a 5/8" or 11/16" impact socket turned upside-down. About the tight diameter and surface area. Should go in with only gentle persuasion.

I thought you were talking about transmission installation. But I guess you haven't got that far yet.

I have now spent more than 2 hours with a slide hammer and the thing won’t move an inch. I’m starting to think I had the wrong size to begin with. Any recommendations for getting this thing out?

Skil saw. Fine tooth blade. Slow speed, short stroke if you can set that. Then a chisel.

Yeah...getting a bushing or bearing out of an LS is an adventure. Nothing like pulling one out of a SBC. The bushing is soft and would prolly drill out, but you’ll have a fortune in drill bits. Whatever you do, be mindful of the freeze plug just in front of the bushing. You knock it out and this becomes serious.

I had this happen once and had to chain a come along to the rear axle and hook to the puller tool. When the bearing came out it sounded like a 9mm shot and I thought the chain broke. Word of caution - don't position your body in the line of site or the chain will hit you hard.

Now I have a better tool. A hydraulic enerpac. I have used it to remove very badly stuck parts. And much safer than the come along. You would basically build a bridge to use the flywheel to press against and a bracket to get to the puller tool. But then you can put 10 tons on it

Finally got it out took less than 5 min with this method. First drill it out to a bigger size for a tap. Then you find a really big 3/4 bolt that will thread in. Then use some sort of spacer that covers the whole bushing. Then it’s easy as threading the bolt in and it comes right out no problem. It’s basically a puller except better because it actually threads in instead of using fingers that keep slipping.

A tool that will pull those easily: Stanley Proto J4059. But not cheap - it was about 50 when I bought it a couple years ago, now price is jacked way up on amazon. The cheapy < $50 pullers might work once in a while due to pure luck, they're all chinese junk. Also, if you don't like wailing on your crankshaft with a BFH, an installer tool that just bolts across the crank flange and has a threaded rod should be pretty cheap (for installing the new one).
